What's worse than not getting what you ordered?

I was very excited about the grocery delivery today. When they finally arrived, I planned to make my lunch and have a tall, cool glass of soda. Except, they didn't bring the soda. Out of stock. That's really disappointing but it wasn't the worst thing that happened.
I started putting away the groceries and came upon the bag of barley (planning to make soup) which had been tossed into a plastic grocery bag with three cans of food. I immediately noticed the barley was spilling out and realized the cans had broken through the packaging. But then I noticed something else. Something much worse.
The bottom of the bag was crawling with bugs. Bugs on the cans, on the barley and now escaping onto my counter. I tried to wrap them all up, and kill the ones on the counter and wash them off the cans (I hope they can't swim) and I threw the bag out into the trash outside as quickly as I could.
Feeling all crawly, I called the delivery service. They generously offered to refund my $1 for the bag of barley and thanked me for telling them that their food was full of bugs. I rather thought they owed me more than the $1, but I didn't press it.
Then I decided to make nachos for supper and realized they didn't deliver the tortilla chips. I am calling them as I type this. This is three strikes, you're out!
Did you ever open a bag of barley or another grain and find it full of bugs? Would you insist on further compensation for your distress if you were me? Do you think they should have offered?
Ick, I still feel crawly just thinking about the bugs.

That really is upsetting. Those bugs that you are talking about that must have been due to exposure in their store. I normally keep stuff in the fridge if a packet is opened as no matter how airtight a container is the stuff goes stale and I see weevils .

You have groceries delivered? Does that mean they pick out your meats, veggies, whatever? Hum, I don't think I could do that.

I can't help thinking they could have offered more than a dollar, but either way I'd be looking fir a new service, and I'm glad I don't get mine delivered

Well, they will refund the $2 from my tortilla chips, too. But they really should be horrified that they sent me a bag of bugs. I should have freaked out, taken a video and put it on social media. Then I could sue for PBSD - Post Bug Stress Disorder.

I would have thought that they should have fully refunded the barley and delivered it to you right away as well as thank you for bringing that to their attention. I've never had any issues with groceries except for a pound of butter that I bought last summer. I went to a store for a couple of things, including butter, that were on sale. I threw the receipt out as it was so small, but a couple of days later when I opened the packaging there was a green line of mold where the folds of the packaging were against the butter. I called the store and explained the situation and that I threw out the receipt, but they told me to bring it in and had a replacement pound of butter, which I requested to be another brand at that stage, waiting for me.

Even when they delivered nasty meat to me once, they only refunded the price, but they never bring you a replacement. Normally, everything is okay, but this was just over the top. Something out of date, okay, that's bad. A bag of bugs? Not good at all.

It's normal in the tropics bugs get in pasta, rice, sugar, flour and many other things. A lot of time I use a second refrigerator to store this type of bag or wrapped food in. This keeps it fresh and bug free.
