MBA Degrees Free to some Students

Arizona State University is just giving away MBA degrees but students still have to study and complete the program but it won’t cost incoming MBA students a penny next year (up to 120 students that is).
ASU’s W. P. Carey School of Business wants to attract non-traditional business students, such as people who want to work for nonprofits but might be scared away by the normally high tuition — $54,000 for in-state students, $90,000 for out of state residents.
The tuition giveaways are coming from a $50 million dollar donation from a real estate tycoon.
The school hopes these grateful alumni will repay some of the free education with donations or mentoring of business students in the future.
ASU is located in Tempe, Arizona where I used to live. It is a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona

Universities are free in my country (there is a tuition, but very low, under $1000, and it includes social security). MBA degrees are not given by universities in France but by private business schools, and they are also very expensive. It is a very good thing to allow any student to do a MBA and a real opportunity for those coming from underprivileged backgrounds.

It is wonderful that ASU is doing this for MBA students. Degree inflation has gotten to the point an MBA is what a BSBA used to be. My respect for the MBA degree went down a lot when the business schools stopped requiring any work experience in the field before admitting students to MBA programs. At one time two or three years experience in business or a related field was a prerequisite. No longer though. It might not bother me so much if the decision hadn't been all about the school making more money than there not being a need for experience.

@Marcyaz I know it's not. That's why the education system in this country needs to change and change fast. It is not fair that only a certain percent of kids get that education. Why do the rich only have that chance. Everyone should have the same opportunity.

Colleges and universities are working to provide means for students to afford an education. It is so expensive that it is a wonder anyone can go to school.

That is a VERY generous donation from that person. I wish there were more people who would do that in order for more students to have a chance at an education for occupations that are supposed to benefit many.
