Pierogies

The other night my sister called me just to ask what Mom used to serve with pierogies when we were growing up. My mind drew a blank. I honestly didn't remember. My Mom just happened to be with me when my sister and I were talking so I asked her and she said she thought she did them with hamburgers. But she said that she really didn't remember anymore because she is so used to what I make mine with now. So I told my sister that I like to make the little smokies with my pierogies. Sometimes I just cook broccoli and serve with them. After a few days of thinking about it, I think my Mom used to serve fish sticks with hers. Do you serve anything different with your pierogies?

Perogies are so tasty. Another form of ravioli. We've eaten them with fish and hamburger saucy dishes. We've not eaten fish sticks in years so I just mean cooked fish when I say fish.

Love pierogies, but we don't eat them all that often because not all my kids eat them. I love cooked fish but the kiddos turn their noses up at it.

@kborman I generally don't eat food that has more breading than the actual item that is breaded.

@sallypup That's a good rule to live by.

We have not had them. I would like to try them. What I would serve with them would depend on what was in them.

There is an art form to homemade pierogies... some are not as good as others. I tend to just get the frozen ones from the store which are rather good. Homemade can be better of course, but the store ones aren't bad at all. Get the regular potato ones, smother them with melted butter and if you like, sauteed onions. This is how we always eat them!

Have you never had them before, or just never made them by hand? If the answer is neither, sometimes you can buy them in larger grocery stores. They are not exactly the same but they are still good when you either don't know how to make them from scratch, or don't have the time.

@katsmeow1213 Good way to do them - when we were growing up, my mom would fry them in a skillet with oil. I boil mine and then put them in some butter and mix them with little smokies. I have also boiled them then put them in the oven for a bit with different seasonings on them.

I almost always make the pierogies with onions and butter. Sometimes we serve kielbasa with it.. other times we'll just have pierogies.

never heard of pierogies but as @sallypup compares them to ravioli they sound like something I would enjoy

My kids don't seem to like fish. Not sure why, they used to eat it.

Growing up we ate them alone, and when I used to make them with my family we ate them alone also. I think we used to eat them on Friday's when Catholics didn't always eat meat, but when I made and served them, I didn't care which day of the week we made or ate them. When we buy the premade types like Mrs T's that is sold in our area, we eat them alone too. (Hi, I've not seen you before either here or on other sites that I know of. I came this way after viewing GardenGerty's activity, and your title caught my eye).

@kborman I only found this site the end of last month, after deciding to read Janet's exploits while on vacation as she chose not to write on bubblews when gone. I'm glad I came by and joined up. Much easier and faster to make money here than over there. Over there I was making about a dollar per month, but on here I'm almost to four dollars in less than a month. The first dollar took much longer than the rest of them have. One only took five days, and I'm not here as much as many others are, so that's refreshing. DId you have the same name on bubblews? I have a friend at work with almost your name. Hers is Kathy and her last name has a g in the middle. In fact, I had to take a second look when seeing your name for the first time.

@MarshaMusselman My user name over there for the longest time was kclaar until we were able to change it. Now it's the same as here. When I got divorced, I took my maiden name back.

They are good all by themselves too. I like Mrs T's, but the store that is closest to use doesn't sell that brand, but they are good too. I definitely don't make homemade - don't have the time for that. This is the first time I have been on here. I started on Triond years ago (still have account but haven't used it in awhile), then I went to Bubblews (still there), and I just happened to hear someone talking about this site, so I figured I check it out. Thanks for stopping by.

We normally boil the handmade ones for a few minutes and then those that like them crispy will fry them in a bit of oil and butter. My husband and one daughter enjoys them boiled only, while the other daughter and I enjoy them crispy. We found that we didn't have to boil the store-bought ones first. But when we all ate together I still had to cook them both ways. We all don't like the same thing on the inside either, so when I buy them I let everyone make their own whenever.

I love pierogies! Honestly, I never put anything with them, really, I used to eat them by themselves. They'd be good with broccoli, though, you're right.
