Oh the Conversations We Would Have

I know the idea comes up often, of what it would be like if we could meet the people we chat away to here every day. I imagine it would be so easy to just carry on with the conversations we have in our discussions here. I know some of you have actual met. Four years ago, when I was writing on a site called Triond, I was lucky enough to meet two fellow writers there in Singapore. Once I knew my husband and I were going to Singapore we started building up even more of a relationship with them. They were wonderful people, who'd actually never met each other before either. What made the day very special was the day we spent with them was our 40th wedding anniversary and New Zealand Mothers Day. It was Mothers Day in Singapore too but both gave up their time to be with us. That made it even more special. So yes, I think it would be easy to put a large group of us from here in a room where we'd just carry on our conversations as if we were here. That would be fun.

Unfortunately for me I am much more shy in person, so I don't know how comfortable I would be meeting anyone on here in person. I'm not nearly as shy when I am talking to a picture on the computer. It would be fun to meet some of those I've met online in person, if I could get passed the shyness. Once I know a person I do tend to talk a lot more.

I was really nervous about meeting my two friends, but we actually made sure we developed a strong online relationship first.

@Gina145 if you went in with a positive attitude expecting it to work, it would. I've often had to pretend over the years.

@fawkes62 I think I'd have the same problem, but I suppose after a while I'd become more comfortable.

I haven't met anyone from mylot, but when yahoo had their chat rooms, I did meet one from there. He lives in the Bronx of New York, and he had a long distance relationship with a gal that lived in the area we did at the time. We met them at the Oregon State Fair one particular day, and we had the best time ever. That is the only time I ever met anyone from online, but maybe someday, i will meet others, maybe from here.

@valmnz That will be really cool. Sometimes we can talk and talk to people and never ever meet them, and then other times we do meet. I was totally surprised when I finally did meet someone from yahoo. Well, there is one place where we will all meet each other, and that is in heaven.

i was in an Indian forum where we had just one foreigner from the UK. She and I got on well, exchanged emails, exchanged photos and when she planned to visit India, I invited her. She and her friend spent two days with us. I took her round to places she had shown interest in. We still write and are in touch I have yet another friend from the US who is an expert in Iris cultivation.

@xFiacre not sure grilled sardines would lure me there! Crayfish, scallops, oysters and mussels are more my style

@MALUSE Off-shore islands perhaps? As an Irishman I'm committed to Europe, but living in the jurisdiction of the UK I feel that I'm more at a distance from it.

I guess I have met four people that I originally met online and I married one of them. I don't think I would do well in a large group at a social setting, I am very abrasive in person. I am just not likable. Sorry.

I have a small home, so I would not be able to invite many over. Moreover, dad hoards so it is dirty too. I wish I could invite others over.

I do not believe that I would feel comfortable in a large group of people, I am pretty shy and the fact that English is not my native language makes me even more shy.

@TheHorse LOL, I remember a friend of mine told me about two business who met, one only spoke Dutch and the other Spanish, but they finally were able to communicate speaking a broken Latin they both had studied in school. My Latin is poor, very poor.

I enjoy trying to work through language issues. I met a friend's father who spoke mostly German. I speak mostly English. But both he and I spoke bad French. So we communicated in bad French. There was much laughter. It was fun.

We had the most amazing day. We walked and talked all day as they showed us some sights. We started with a traditional Singaporean breakfast.
