It is bonfire night today and I am planning on going to one tomorrow night :D Have you ever heard of black peas? It is a dish that they serve at most north west bonfires and it is supposed to be really nice. I am going to try it for the first time tomorrow. It is basically a special black peas soaked in salt and vinegar and then covered in vinegar. Have you ever had Black Peas before?

I've heard of them, but never tried them. I like mushy peas. I hope the weather is alright for you tomorrow.

@gudheart The weather will need to be a bit better than it is in my part of England, if you go tonight. It's a miserable rainy day.

@gudheart They tasted like regular beans. If I remember well they were prepared with a barbecue sauce.

I use black peas in my taco soup, but I usually buy them in cans.

No. But I have had black beans. If it is any thing like them it is putrid. Yuck! I was not impressed at all. Maybe these peas will be better.

I've not eaten black peas and have not seen any. I am curious how it tastes and wish I could find a black peas dish here in restaurants around.

@gudheart I hope the weather is better tonight, yesterday it just rained most of the day until about an hour ago. It's meant to be dry for a few hours before it rains again :(

Yes...Blackeyed peas are a tradition to eat at the New Years Eve Supper, every year.Is that the same thing? They are supposed to be eaten to bring you prosperity throughout the year. Probably an old wives tale, but we eat them anyway.

I have not heard of black peas. I have heard of black eyed peas. They are sometimes called cow peas. They are dried and bagged up to sell in the grocery stores. You clean them in water and let them soak for a while, drain and then cook in water with salt, pepper and any other flavoring or a tad bit of oil.

Sounds similar as the black peas have to be soaked in water for look time and boiled.

I haven't heard of this dish. I'm not very keen on anything in the pea line except green peas but I'm always willing to try out new dishes.
