I did not know about this

In my previous post I mentioned a theme called fairness and I said that there are some cases when life just isn't fair to us. Let me tell you what I meant by that. About two weeks ago, one of my (ex)colleagues from the University has contacted me via facebook and told me that they need an engineer where he is currently working. The problem is that at that point I started working for some other guy in the city that is closest to the place I live in. But the thing is that I have not signed any contract with that guy yet. Anyways, I asked him about what offer they have for me and he told me some offer that seemed pretty reasonable to me and I took it. So, I told the guy that I was working for at that point that I cannot work for him anymore because I found something better. The guy understood me and did not get angry at me for the fact that I left him. So, I came to talk to this new boss from this new company that is located in a different city which is very far from the place that I live in and therefore I have to move to another city and which requires me to pay some rent for the hosting. Once I got there, the new boss told me a few stuff about their company and he accepted me to work for them. So, the next step was for me to move to the city where the company is located in and start working. Well, everything seems good until now except that they did not tell me one very important detail: the program as well as the payment/salary is only 80% of the value that is on the contract. You may be wondering why they only pay 80% of the value. Well, the reason for that is because they don’t have any work for now. But this raises another question: if they don’t have much work to do then why did they hire me? What was the purpose of that? Well, there is an answer for this question as well which is that there are rumours around that pretty soon enough the company will get to have many projects to deal with and the work will become really intense. But, even if that is true, why did they not tell me this from the beginning? Neither my colleague nor my boss have told me that during this period the work and the payment in this company are not at 100% of the value in the contract but 80%. And not only that but they are like so from about 6 or 7 months ago. What do you think about this?

It sounds deceitful that this was not told you before you made these changes. I am not sure it has anything to do with fairness, but with honesty.

Yep, this is pretty much a clear case of deception. Fairness implies there's an impartial judgement systems that's not executed fairly. This is not the case here, as it comes down to 2 people being dishonest.

What do you mean that it has nothing to do with fairness?

This does not sound like a place that is fair to their new employees if they did not tell you right from the start.

@Rosekitty yes, you are here on my profile commenting on my posts... pretty seldom though. It's like a special event when that happens

I guess its not about fairness.. you should have checked every detail about the contract and your project before you resigned. I guess it was mainly your fault and partly their fault.

Not good. They should have been honest within you from day 1 to think that a former colleague got you there.

This is not good. But, does it mean that after 6 or 7 months, they will still give you 20% of your supposed unreceived salaries for the same periods?

I have no idea what makes you think that they will give us this unpaid money

I´m sorry that this happened to you. What happened was not fair, but it wasn´t an unfair life but an unfair event. Probably if you think about your life as a whole, you will discover that this is irritating but not life changing.

They weren't upfront with you. That's not good. That doesn't sound trustworthy. You're in a bind because you're on contract but I hope it all works out. That wasn't fair at all.

It sounds like a scam. I am sorry this has happened to you. Is there anyway you can go back and get the job you were hired for first?

They obviously were not straight up with you or put all their cards on the table. This is very unfair to you. What are you going to do?

@Cristi_Ichim I do hope so, that's a stinky situation to be in, especially after a new move!

Hmmm, I guess you better find a more stable company. In the meantime, while looking for one, stick with that company.

So are you going to work for that company. They do not sound all that honest.

I think that they are cheaters, they had to tell you immediately. Now you have to pay for a place where to stay and the salary is not what you expected. I suppose that if you knew you would have stayed with the other Boss.

Bad business in my opinion especially to wait so long to share this vital information! Hope things get busy and you make a decent living. And as GardenGerty points out deception, makes you wonder if they hid anything else?
