They Were Late

Earlier today, I wrote about waiting for my grocery delivery which I was sure would come at any moment. It didn't come at any moment. It came at a moment nearly half an hour late.
I know that doesn't sound like much, but my delivery window was 7:30 to 1:00. That's a big window and it shouldn't be too difficult to fit my delivery into that window. I take the long window because I get a discount on the delivery price.
Anyway, I was going to give then a half hour before I called them looking for my delivery. Usually, they call if the delivery is going to be late. Finally I called, just a few moments short of 1:30pm. Due to heavy volume, I was on hold, waiting for a customer service rep.
And then suddenly, my driver arrived. He was lucky that I hadn't got through to an agent, or that I didn't choose the option of leaving my number and having them call me back. He said his phone didn't work, and coincidentally, neither did his radio in the truck so he couldn't tell his company he was late, which is why I didn't get a phone call or an email about the delay.
Uh huh.
I pretended to believe that, after all, he may be new and I don't want him to lose his job for being really late. I wasn't too happy that two of my dozen eggs were cracked, but he wrote me up for a refund on them, so that's okay.
I want good service, and things did not go smoothly. Things haven't been going smoothly with this service for a while. The driver was late and obviously trying to prevent his company from finding out just how late. I could have called and complained, but I didn't.
You know, I don't want the guy to lose his job or get a warning. It's not like he was hours late, and he didn't snack on my Pringles or let my frozen food melt or anything. He did swing those eggs around a bit too freely and he's probably the one who broke them, but he was pleasant enough and looked pretty worn out. So, I will let it slide.
Would you have reported him for being late and breaking the eggs? Or would you cut a working man a break and let it slide?

I would cut him some slack, this time. Not on a regular basis though.

you did get a refund on the eggs, so I'd let it go this time.

I would have definitely cut the guy some slack. It sounds like he has had a rough day, and jobs are hard to come by. I would hate for someone to lose their job. Plus your kindness was rewarded by getting a refund on your eggs, all of which you can still use :D

I would report that it was late because I would assume his lateness wasn't his fault but the planners sending him to places that couldn't be done in the time.
That's a massive window and he should have managed to meet it. So sorry but yes, I'd report. If it was a one-off, he'll be fine. If he's been late to everybody, then the customers deserve better.

No, I would not have reported him. Especially since he got you a refund for the eggs. Life seems hard for everyone right now, and it must be for him as well.

If it was his first delivery to me I might cut him a break.

Give the guy a break. I'm sure there are other people that were hounding him earlier. If his phone wasn't working, he may be needing that job if he is behind on payments or such. We never really know people's problems and being pleasant to someone who is stretched thin is appreciated more than you know.

I don't know. I might have cut him some slack. I don't know how many deliveries he is given, the distance between them, the state of the roads, the traffic conditions. I don't know if the companies expectations are reasonable.
I'd be looking for a mystery shop to evaluate the service, then I'd be willing to state the time it took since they'd be paying me to do so.
