Just a word for New Users

No need to post a post every minute and a half. You do not get paid to post, but paid to start discussions. I know that this site represents significant money to some, and I hope they enjoy the process. I can only imagine if we changed seats and you were here and I was in your home place needing all the funds I could find I might be firing out discussions that rapidly. Relax and have fun. Interaction is the key to earning. This is my morning "rant" after looking at a list of discussions of new users where almost all of them were started by one user. It is often a turn off for others to see that.

On the flip side of that there are some that don't start discussions often enough.

I think that the users should post once in a while too.

@Marilynda1225 yes, I find myself scrolling way back to see if I can find one I didn't read.

It's hard to reciprocate sometimes when someone hasn't posted a discussion in days

It doesn't bother me too much when someone starts too many discussions. What bothers me is when they're just 1 sentence long. Put a little thought and detail into the discussion, geez!

I do wish these new uesers would read the guidelines, especially about discussions being of "value". I see so many where I wonder what is the point of reading it.

@destry Yeah, if it looks like that I don't even bother to read it!

@katsmeow1213 I think that sometimes, in trying to be "of value" the posts become mini lectures, not discussions. "Importance of brushing teeth", "sleep is good for you". . . not actual titles but the type of thing that I see often.

Even @myLotBugs has made a post to encourage interaction. I still see several users submitting dozens of posts everyday and not interacting and I see that their posts have no comments.

It certainly makes me feel like not responding. These same people will have nothing good to say about the site.

I find it very easy to ignore these posts that come one after another in a big flood but I do feel bad that the good posts get lost amongst the floods of one line questions.

@Hatley a lot don't bother. I even saw one who said she/he knew there were instructions but they couldn't be bothered to read them so would other members tell them what to do.

I have seen many people just posting on and on. But i post 2 post a day or sometimes 3. I always love to interact than just writing posts of my own.

I think natural attrition will deal with them, or they will read others and learn what a discussion looks like.

Very well said. I think its great that we have new members, and even better when they get a little helpful advise. I saw a discussion this morning that had no words at all in it, just a smilie face. It was someone's first discussion, it could have been posted in error.

Wow. It is totally a violation. I am glad we do not have minimum words for posts and responses, but the last I knew they ARE supposed to have some words.

@Hatley The more words the more chance to respond, I think. If scammers come here we all chase them away.

It is a bit of a turn off to see so many discussions without accompanying interaction. I guess we all need to learn the ropes when we come here.

I think a few people have a hard time, partially because of the language differences but also because somewhere along the line they have come to believe they are paid per post.

although i haven't done it here, sometimes i feel chatty and maybe post too often (think: Facebook status updates) :-) but yeah, i try to not do that here. i think i maybe have 30 discussions so far and have been here more than a month... though i do understand feeling like chatting

Chatting is one thing. If you are chatting, I guess people are chatting back. I am more thinking of posts that just state something but the poster does not put things in a way that is open to discuss, or if someone replies, does not comment back. An example of the difference would be one person stating "It is fall, and the leaves are turning colors." and another one saying "It is fall in my part of the world, the maples and other trees turn colors as the temperatures cool off. Is it fall where you live and do the trees change colors?" I might start one discussion a day, or more. I think my record since the site started back up is perhaps four in one day. I have two up for today. I can think of two more I could post, but I have not responded to everything on the first two, so I likely will not do it.

If I see multiple new discussions started by one user in a short space of time, I automatically assume that they don't have time to respond to any comments left for them on their earlier new discussions. I do not come here to speak to myself!

Many times they seem to be "informative" or "instructional" posts, or rather "articles". I saw that some of our seasoned users explained this to a recent user and that made a difference. Although that person is not a rapid fire poster.

@GardenGerty (62248), Garden, do you start the discussions the same place you start the post? I thought you did, but I might have been wrong in that. I don't know. I am still learning, and Yeah, I am one of those that really need the extra money. :: smiles:: Thank you for your wise words for us. Love.

@tuttiharris a discussion and a post are the same thing, except a post just tells us something, makes a statement. A discussion invites interaction. That would be like you posting some of your gorgeous holiday decorations. You could just say "This is my fall stuff. I bought it at pottery barn. It has lots of fall colors." That is not what you do. Or you could, as you so graciously do, say "I am using my favorite fall leaf collection dishes. Do you have special seasonal plates? I like to shop at Pottery Barn but also at Dollar stores. Where do you find decorations?" Tutti, you are an inviting person who interacts, and that is what this site is about, good old friendly people. Every post I read from you I hear your voice in my mind, and I have never even met you, but that is what a discussion is, something in your voice that invites others to participate.

Oh my god thank you so much for saying this. I am sure so many people thought this one but nobody has ever said it before. At times I look on new post and I see like 10 in a row that a new person has posted. I think this is a little much and 1 should be more than enough.

@birjudanak I know it isn't easy to come here and fit in. I am not here so long either. But one way to fit in quickly is to meet people by commenting on their work. After you find a few people you like to read their work then follow them. After keep commenting and meet more people. See what people are writing about. Now craft a post that fits in all these people interest and post it. This one should help.

I am new here. Literally just signed up and checking things out. I read something online that said you earn better when your responses are at least 3 sentences. I see comments on this discussion speaking about people posting one sentence in discussions, but a lot of the comments here are one sentence. Can you explain to me if this is accurate of what I read please. If so then why would a person speak in a double standards manner? Why criticize how one person does on the site trying to earn money when you are doing the same thing in comments on a discussion (If what i read was accurate).

Or they can ignore them. It is the fact that people do not interact that turns others off. If a user does not interact, then others will not interact with them. Then they will not earn and go off complaining that this site is a scam.
