One of THOSE mornings. Then I could not find it.

I turned on the bathroom heater and pulled the door shut. Now it will not open, it locked itself. Oh, and my first version of this discussion disappeared, this is a rewrite. Yet I have this discussion twice in recent discussions. Lesson learned, I am editing. Hubby needs to shower and shave before work so he is trying to break in. He is not letting me help. This is actually the kind of door lock you stick a straight thing in and it unlocks. I hope we solve this. He says there is no simple solution, the door is crooked so the lock is crooked and stuck. We will work on it tonight, I am sure. Maybe we will remove the trim. As far as the discussion goes, lesson learned, or remembered: Keep looking, it is there somewhere.

You may be on to a winter's project there. When we noticed our big bathroom door hung crooked and my hubby suggested a replacement, I asked if we could change from mahogany to oak and from the door style we had to raised panels. Of course that lead to new oak trim, door jams and once 1 door was changed.....well you get the idea. If you were looking for a winter's project, you may have found one, otherwise I hope that you're careful and can save the door. Good luck.

The decor here will be a lifelong project. Nice, old, solid house.I like the trim, door needs replaced though, anyway.

Isn't that always the way? We want to paint part of the house. What's the betting we end up doing it all?

@JudyEv Oh but that was our intention. We fell short by not doing the closet doors, but we will start and finish that this winter. Its a good time of the year to do indoor projects.

Older houses do have their quirks. Hope you can find an easy remedy for getting that door fixed.

Since we were locked out, it was more just maddening and frustrating.

We had a bathroom door that would get stuck all the time. The house was over 100 years old. My husband finally got it working smoothly

The door hinges probably need tightened up to straighten out how it hangs.

The wire hanger trick would not have worked on this, but that is a good thought. At my sister's senior apartment every apartment has a little screw driver on a hook on the bathroom door.

@GardenGerty I tried to find a key, I know they make little handles with straight pin key thingies but never could find, I do like that idea, if I can find the right sized screwdriver

Now I understand about the bathroom door. I hope you are able to get it open without breaking it.

@GardenGerty I'm glad you got it open. I suppose now you will need to fix the door so it won't happen again.

I was outside the bathroom. It is frustrating, the heater is running, my laundry I planned to wash is in there. Mostly any kind of stress makes me want to eat and I do not need to do that either.

When growing up we had a bathroom door with a lock and when we kids would chase each other one person would lock themselves inside as a safety feature from the others. After a while, when the rest would push, the lock didn't work so well any longer. I don't remember what we did exactly, but we didn't need any tools, just a bit of weight over a period of time. Later, when using it for the same thing, we'd have to use our foot to hold it against the rest. Maybe a home improvement/.hardware store would sell something to get into locked doors. I'm sure it's happened to others too over the years.

He just loosened the trim. This just let me know how sturdily this house is put together.

Stuck doors are such a nuisance. I hope you don't end up with a major renovation such as @Juliaacv's. And lucky you weren't in the bathroom when the door jammed.

The heat ran all day. It was absolutely hot. I showered in the other bathroom. Hubby had to work on it after work.
