Youtube Of The Day - Danny Kaye – The King’s New Clothes

I love this song which tells the Hans Christian Anderson fairy story in just a few minutes. Of all fairy tales I find this is the one I find myself using more than any other as a metaphor when surrounded by people fawning over someone or sucking up to bosses with worthless positive praise. I’m like the kid in the story and this song who loudly points out the simple obvious truth everyone avoids. I always think the ending would be different though – the king would have the unbeliever executed and carry on wearing his ‘new clothes’ and listening to everyone saying how magnificent he looks. The Librarian's had a good episode, where fairy tales were coming to life, the major jogging past in his all together was terrifying, lol

I still need to see this - you might want to read Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next novels about literary characters escaping into the real World - very funny - the first is called The Eyre Affair with Jane Austen characters centre stage

@arthurchappell sounds interesting! I did love Jane Austin and love tongue in cheek spoofs of stuff like that

Danny Kaye always had the most charming way of presenting a silly song.

Isn't Danny Kaye delightful? I watch him every year dance around the room on White Christmas. He makes it look so easy. He was so good in the other movies he was in. Kings were so pompous and beyond reproach on any subject. Fairy tales are so easy.

Oh my goodness, I remember that I saw the movie when I was a kid. Danny Kaye was a kind actor.

AS an usher in the Lyric theatre in 1952 I watched "On The Rivera" over 30 times BUT I did get to meet Kaye and Gene Tierney!! He was a master entertainer!
