This is one very haunted and spooky place to be or visit, built in 1625, by Lord Esmonde, on the same site of what once was an ancient 15th cent, monastery, in Clonegal.
Many and varied apparitions haunt the grounds and the house, with monks often seen in the Yew Walk, which itself is over 600yrs. old and part of the original monastery,Ailish O' Flaherty first of the Lord's wives, often seen combing her long hair and wailing at the 'Spy Bush',a spectre of a 17th cent. soldier knocks on the castle door.
Also the ghost of Barbara st. Lege, who married into the family, wanders the corridors, along with her maidservant, Honor Byrne, who has been seen to polish door handles with her long hair, as she floats through, along with the Bishop of Limerick, who lived in the 'four poster room' after retirement, in the 18th. century.
Many guests who have stayed there have testified to many hauntings during their stay....some never return!

So many ghosts floating out there.....I wonder if they harm anyone, or only if you try to annoy them. The castle looks big, haunted and creepy.

If I ever get to Ireland I want to stay there. I think it would be an experience worth the time and money...
