Something Strange Since Joining Mylot.

Like many of you I migrated here from Bubblews, and was delighted to find a lot of people I knew here, including some really special friends. There were also a lot of what I would call 'passing acquaintances', i.e. people that I would occasionally interact with, but didn't follow, nor did they follow me, even though we may have seen each other around for quite a while. Now that I've been here a few weeks I've noticed something strange. A lot of these passing acquaintances have transformed into really good friends. I've got to know them much better here, they are fun and we have many exchanges. I'm wondering why I didn't that side of them before, and I can only put it down to the discussion format, as opposed to the 'comment and run' method. Have you noticed anything similar?

There were hundreds of thousands of users at Bubblews at one time. Although there might have been people we might have connected with, we all tended to fall into little circles of acquaintanceship. And commenting at Bubblews got slower with every update. One simply couldn't get back and forth to respond and reply over and over. The notification system here, the emails, the quicker response time - all of this helps us reach out to more people. Plus, when B users got here, it was only natural to gravitate to the names which were known to us, even if we didn't have a close connection before.

@jaboUK I think that if there is action on a response, it moves up. So, if the comment thread below a response remains active and growing, it will move up and comments with no replies, fewer replies and older replies drop down. I think most recent is how the comments end up.

@Rollo1 But i sometimes find recent comments that I haven't even seen right down at the bottom.

@Rollo1 Yes, as @Asylum pointed out, when we come to a new site it's natural to seek out familiar names, and then we get to know them better. I must admit that I like the email system here, it helps me not to miss things. However I still find that the way the comments are presented can be confusing. For instance when I first posted this there were a crop of comments, but they weren't in chronological order.

I actually noticed the same thing. I think we're creatures of habit. Once I had a circle of "friends" on Bubblews, those were the people I'd visit repeatedly, regardless of whether I'd recently gotten a comment from them. But with the change to a new site, I'd visit whoever visited me. That added new friends to my "circle."

@TheHorse You are one of the people I had in mind when writing this. We didn't know each other too well before, but now we're friends aren't we?

This is inevitable really because Bubblews was a very busy site at one time and many members already had a huge list of friends. Now that they had entered unfamiliar territory they are naturally attracted to a familiar name and the interaction soon develops into a more concrete connection.

@jaboUK It can often be strange when we first join a new site and begin to find our way around. In my case I have been a member of Mylot even before I joined Bubblews, but it was still a change when I returned. Many ex Bubblews members who never even encountered each other there have ended up as friends due to responding to discussions about the site and realising that they have something in common.

@Asylum You're right and I like the fact that we can talk to other responders more here, we can just join any thread as and when we feel like it.

@Asylum That's a very good point - we are drawn to people we already know, even if we hadn't interacted with them much before.

BB was very different from mylot. Here the accent is in interaction. I feel here as if I were at my house, chatting with friends. At Bubblews we posted about general subjects and we did not much answer and comment as here. I prefer mylot

No offense to Bubblews at all,but in my opinion there was no 'interaction' there to get to really know people. You posted a bubble, people would like and/or comment and that was the end of that. Here you can actually learn more about people. (Just my opinion)

That is because interaction on here is not only encouraged but also expected. It is difficult to interact with people often and not get to know them.

@TexanTornado Yes, I agree, and it isn't any offence to Bubblews - it's just a different modus operandi here, one which does help us to get to know each other better. Though I did make lasting friendships there which have spilled over onto here as well.

I that the format of discussions lends itself to us being more open and friendships just grow. It is really nice. I know that I've gained a confident that seems to understand, or read between the lines of my discussions when I am hurt, and they've come to my aid and put a smile on my face. I don't remember that happening on the other site so much.

@Juliaacv I agree, the friendships grow when we can have a proper conversation, and others can join in too. I have many really good friends from the other site that I have a really good understanding with, I've just added a lot more now I've come here.

A most interesting discussion starter, and some of the conversation threads from it sum up adequately how I have found myLot too. There is a certain something, a spark, here that I have not seen anywhere else. Long may it last.

@jaboUK I think it's all down to the "two" I had to append to my myLot I'd or persona or whatever it is called here. The shaving thing was a B revelation, though, from memory. Everything's a little less prickly over here

I do think the interaction here is more vibrant than 'there 'and frankly in the last months, bubble didn't exactly fill people with the joy of living, did it?...Arvind droning on about his visions, were wholly insincere and hard to take, when he had his hand in your back pocket, and nothing to offer!

This is true - even though it's natural to gravitate toward familiar names, myLot is still small enough for us to strike up new friendships. As numbers grow, I wonder if we will eventually settle on a circle of followers? The discussion format does make it easier to interact with new people though.

@troyburns I suppose if the site does grow too much in numbers we would be unable to keep up with everybody, so would naturally settle on a regular circle. At the moment I'm enjoying adding new friends.

@cindiowens Here it's more like 'wait around and see if we get a reply' rather than just leave a comment and go on to the next post. @betsuz I haven't left Bubblews, I'm doing both sites, and you won't see me running that site down. However I do like the discussions here.

Oh, I don't know. I think many of us interacted freely over there and I've done the same elsewhere too, but because we can control our own outcome to a large degree by leaving comments and responses ourself, it seems that the majority are more willing to get involved by continuing the discussions which provides even more interaction. overall.

Since I have been here, i have made some wonderful friends, friends that i interact with on a daily basis, and they are very nice people. Mylot is a great community filled with great people, and we help each other along the way. I am so thankful for the friends I have made in here, as actually, I don't have offline friends so the ones in here, I value very much, and I do enjoy interacting with them. Interaction is the best part of mylot, that is for sure.
