Misbehaving at the Movies

Recently I went to a movie with my friend and her parents. We chose to go to the show earlier in the day because her parents don't come out much at night. Actually this early session is mainly attended by retirees and such. When we arrived at the theatre the show was about to start so we quickly found a seat and sat down quietly. Apparently the wrong movie was being shown, my friend and I were not aware of this but soon it came to our attention via four ladies in the row behind us. The conversation went something like this for at least 20 minutes. First lady, 'Oh no, this is a repeat', Second lady, 'Well we don't want to watch it again' Third lady, 'Ask someone to change the film' Fourth lady, "I'm leaving, there is no point sitting here' First lady, 'who is leaving? I'm coming with you' Second lady, 'I'm leaving I don't want to sit through this again' Third lady, 'Wait and see, they might change the film' Fourth lady, 'I am going to go out for coffee'. The conversation went on and on in this vein for some time. All of these people must have been over 50 or more and yet sounded like querulous teenagers, (apologies to teenagers who aren't querulous".) The thing is none of them moved. Finally the film was changed and the advertised film for that day was shown. With relief we sat back and watched an entertaining show with just a few interjections from the ladies behind. 'Who is that actor? I know his face' 'It might be Michael Douglas' They stopped then just as I was about to turn around and do or say something to them that we might all have regretted.

Yes, they were pretty rude. Even when we 'coughed' and turned around they ignored us

Think of it this way, if the movie hadn't been any good, you would have still have had some entertainment.

I thought only babies are allowed to be noisy at movies.

@vandana7 True. And I don't think mothers would let their babies be that noisy if possible

I rarely go go a movie and most know not to talk through it. i would have moved with OBVIOUS disgust during the first film to let them know how rude they were being. I know you couldn't move the whole group but talking is just not the thing to do in a theater. Glad you didn't have to yell at them.

Some people never grow up and they think that they are the only ones in the world.

They deserved a few words from you, but you are right, it's better to keep calm.
