The Ugliest Thing Ever

I just happened to remember one Christmas one of my sons bought me a necklace (their school had people bring in items that the children could buy for a very low amount of money like 5 cents to 25 cents.)
This necklace was such a shock when I saw it as it was the ugliest, biggest thing I had ever seen but seen my son had bought it for me I hugged him and said how pretty it was.
He absolutely wanted me to wear it right there and then, how could I deny him the pleasure of seeing me wear this necklace he had bought me.
The next night we were going out with another couple and of course I had to wear the necklace but as soon as we were in the car and driving away I took that awful looking thing off from around my neck.
Has anything like this ever happened to you?
Sorry I don't have a picture of it.

Your necklace probably looked better than the macaroni one my son made in school and I had to wear it

I once drank coffee not made in a coffee cup, just tap water and coffee grounds because my son made it for me. He was five.

I'd like to see a picture of the necklace.
I can understand why you wore it though you didn't like it at all. If it were my children who ask me to do so, I'd just wear it. My children are still too young to buy me anything, they are just 3 and 6, but they used to ask me to stick a sticker on my shirt as they did when we were outside, though I didn't really like it, I still let them stick the sticker.
I was just telling the story "Beauty and the Beast" to my son last night, and talked about the ugly look of the Beast, but he has the kind and good heart. So I believe though you were wearing the ugly necklace, you were feeling the love within it.

Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the necklace as this happened years ago when he was a child and the necklace was soo heavy on my neck but as you said I knew he thought it was the prettiest thing in the world and he loves his mama so of course I had to wear it.

Well done you for not shattering your son's pleasure. He must have been so proud to have bought you something. My wife gave me a ring once which was hideous. It was thick gold with a massive diamond in it. I was so shocked that she would even think I would wear it. When she asked me if I liked it I told her no take it back and get your money back as I would never ever wear anything so hideous. I do not wear jewellery since I lost our wedding ring.

I have received gifts like that from my children when they were young. In their eyes they think it is so beautiful that you just can't say how you really feel about it. Even though the necklace was ugly, I'm sure it touched your heart to know that your son picked it out just for you.

Somewhat. I got a pierced earring flower from a customer. I don't have pierced ears so I gave it to my daughter. She didn't like it so re-gifted it to my new sister-in-law as a wedding gift. She obviously didn't like it and gave it to someone else, I think my mother, who in turn re-gifted it back to me, not knowing I had it originally. I disposed of it. It was a gift nobody wanted.

Amazing what we will do so we do not hurt our children feelings.

haha! Yes that's happened to me lots of times - my eldest bought me a horrible pair of cheap plastic earrings once which practically turned my ears green they were such bad quality, she'd done some work though (she was about 11) and was so pleased to have bought them that I had to suffer the allergic reaction (and embarrassment - they were VERY ugly)

Now I'm very curious to know what the necklace looks like! It did happen to me a few times, not a necklace but an outfit. But at least the person was thoughtful enough to give me something as a gift.
