Do You Journal?

When I was about 10 years old, I got my first Diary. You know the kind, it was small and had a lock and key. I didn't have a very pleasant childhood and writing in my Diary was a way for me to get things out. It really did seem to help. I'm not sure when it changed but it is now called Journaling and I am trying to get back into the habit of writing in a journal. I do consider myLot a form of journaling but I don't write about my deep, inner most thoughts. With technology the way it is today, I can use a word document and just type instead of writing as I often get cramps in my fingers if I write too much. Each month I can print it out and put it in a notebook. Right now I do forget to write everyday but I just have to get back into the habit. Does anyone else journal? Do you journal manually or on your computer?

I have a journal, an old fashioned journal that I fill manually every day. I like to check the past diaries and see what I did.

@simone10 I only write a few lines, the important things that happened during the day. I am glad I did over the years, sometimes I read the old diaries I wrote during my trips. They bring back memories, it is incredible how many details you forget when the year passes.

@LadyDuck You are so right. You can look at pictures but it's not quite the same.

I wish I could journal everyday but I always seem to forget. I am trying really hard to remember to write everyday. I guess it will get into a habit after a while.

I had a diary too as a teen. It's really hard remembering to journal now because I am not used to it but I'm not going to give up.

When I was a teenager I had a diary. I do not really journal now. I tend to write my feelings out (well type them out), just as a personal release for myself. Sometimes, it helps me deal with a certain issue if I write it out. I guess you could say it is almost like therapy. Sometimes, I can write about what I cannot talk about in real life to people. I have found through the years, it is better never to tell anyone your deep secrets, because it will one day bite you in the butt. Now, I have found I can type it out, and it will not bite me in the butt later. It is for nobody's eyes but mine.

I use journaling as a form of therapy also. I don't mind writing about any deep dark secrets as the only ones who will be reading my journal are my kids and that is when I am gone.

No but I have taught my girls to do it. There is so much I wish I had written down in my life, now I only have memories to rely on and they fade.

Memories are another reason I want to journal. I can write all of those down before they fade and pass it on to my kids and grankids.

@simone10 very good plan. There are so many things they want to know as they get older, that we forget.

Yes, it would be a very good way to improve your handwriting.

I have never done that. But I'm really vocal and usually just say what's on my mind. My sons and husband have always said they know when somethings wrong they can see it on my face.

@fishtiger58 I was very shy also and hated being that way but it was just who I was at the time. Now I say what is on my mind when sometimes I probably should be quiet

I have in the past, especially when I was serious about eating healthy and I enjoyed finding an old journal one time. You have given me an excellent idea to do as you are saying, a word document and then print it.

That is what I am doing. I can type a lot faster than I can write and writing a lot causes my hand to hurt so this is easier for me.

I did try keeping a diary before but after few day, I could not keep writing anymore. I am not consistent in my desire to write about my deep thoughts and things about my myself.

I don't think you are boring but I know what you mean. I want to journal my innermost thoughts and that way, when I am gone, my kids/grandkids will have a little bit of me still here.

I don't journal on a daily basis. I do journal while on vacation so we remember our trips. The camping journal has been going on for 35 years, without that journal, all the fun and silliness and scary parts would be gone...

I don't journal. I used to keep a diary when we had a few acres and there were things to write about but I was never into writing down my thoughts and feelings. I am sure it is helpful.

I also had a bad childhood and had the diary with the lock and key, but I never got into writing in it, so I quit. I know that sounds strange for one who loves to write and in one of my classes, I had to keep a journal and hated it. I do have a notebook I use to keep notes of ideas and dreams for future stories, but I am not into writing in a journal about my feelings. I guess maybe my novel writing might be my outlet, I use some real life and create an alternative scenario in order to cope.

journaling has always been fun. I started with a hard bound when I was 16, my boyfriend accidently read it and I was frank regarding my thoughts in diary so it caused a problem. after that I started doing it in computer but was always insecure regarding the stuff it contained. So due to mood swings after a month or 2 of starting I always delete the document. But after sometime I again start writing. The cycle still continues. :)

I know what you mean. I forget about the journal for a few days and then when I go back to it, I want to start if over again. It is a cycle so I'm going to try and not start over each time I miss days.
