It Just Doesn't Matter

Have you ever got it stuck in your head that you have all these things to do, and not enough time to do them? So, you make a list and when your first opportunity strikes (usually a weekend), you start tackling the list of important stuff you just have to get done. Next thing you know, your day has gotten away from you, you're feeling exhausted, and half the things on your list aren't finished. So, you say you'll wake up early the next morning and finish getting it all done. But a strange thing often happens. You wake up the next morning, and for one reason or another, you convince yourself that those things on that list are not important! Is it laziness, or is it the realization that maybe those things weren't all that important to begin with? I woke up this morning with the intention of getting about a dozen things on my "list" done today. But you know what? I have no intention of doing any of it! It's just too nice of a day to be stuck doing chores and what not. That stuff can wait! Instead, I think it's a good day to get outside and enjoy this beautiful cool weather we're having down here in Florida! What's your plans today?

@Drosophila Thanks. There are so many lovely flowers and pretty butterflies there that a good camera and a little patience is all that is necessary.

@moffittjc I don't have one where near where I live. But there is one where I am at the moment, which I will disclose in a couple of days. Hint, it rained here pretty hard at 4:00 this morning.

I have made a lot today, I have even found the time to move everything from one freezer to the other and clean the inside. I think I am ready for the holidays.

@moffittjc It's a bit too late, after Christmas there is the New Year, but before that, on the 27th, we celebrate our wedding anniversary.

This is really a blend of the realisation that tomorrow will be early enough and the lack of desire to get involved right now.

One of the things I've learned over the years is that if it is truly important I'll do it right away. If it isn't important, I'll do it when I get tired of my missus asking when am I going to do it. Every summer she makes me a list. I use the list as a coaster under my iced coffee.

@sugartoes My wife is a Type A personality who never learned to prioritize. She thinks everything is critical and must be done as soon as the thought strikes her. It has taken her some time to learn that just because she thinks something needs to be done "right this second," most of the time it can wait until I'm finished doing what I'm doing, and sometimes, it never really needs to be done at all, because whatever it is she suddenly decided needed to be different is fine just the way it is.

Sounds like a "honey-do" list! I'm surprised she lets you use it as a coaster!

@sugartoes But if you read between the lines on the post by @dwdavis, you see that he ends up doing it regardless. Either he does it when he wants to, or he does it when his wife makes him! Personally, I think there's a fine line between the two! lol

I go through that all the time. It's called "procrastination".

The nice thing about procrastination, it always gives you something to look forward to! Or, as I like to say, the sooner I fall behind, the more time I have to catch up!

That's what's so hard about getting everything done that we need to get done. Most of us don't get that much time off from work, so when we do we want to enjoy the day, not spend it completely our "to-do" list!

@cindiowens We need 4-day work weeks instead of five! That way, we can have one day for chores and errands, and then still have two days to enjoy our weekends! lol

Motivation is key for getting things done for me. If the motivation is not there, then it doesn't get done. In late fall/winter, I seem to have a serious lack of motivation. At least in the spring and summer I can get things done.

I think my motivation to get things done depends on the day of the week it is, as well as the time of year! lol

Yes it happens to me a lot :) Making that long list and not able to finish them all, either because there is not really enough time, or the laziness thing, or someone called and spend too long on the phone, forgot all the important things to be done, or some unannounced guest knock at the door :)

@sugartoes When I see Hoarders on tv, it makes me cringe. How can people live like that? About a year ago, my girlfriend made a comment one day that she thought I was a hoarder because I was collecting a lot of junk. That freaked me out and within a week I had a huge yard sale and got rid of so much crap out of my place! Sometimes, you don't realize how much stuff builds up in your home. It took an outsider to see my hoarding tendencies! Now, I'm very conscious about it, because I never want to be like the people in the tv show! lol

@moffittjc I do this ALL the time buuuut...and I'm feeling annoyed saying this once again but it's truly the depression side of it. I have a To Do list every day. But then it gets longer the next day because I didn't do them. I'm feeling quite motivated today though which is good. Will be doing some house cleaning after I watch Dr. Phil then I want to tackle a LOT of MyLot. Need to get those earnings rising!

I think it is important to know what is a priority. Often things reall are not that important.

But that's often part of the problem! We never clearly define what our priorities are. When you fail to define what is important, either everything becomes a priority, or nothing at all becomes a priority!

Not wanting to do it is definitely an excuse! It's all a matter of priorities. We always seem to have time to do the things we want to do!

I'm having that kind of day today. I have a list of things I wanted to do but don't feel like doing any of them. Instead I find myself here reading and commenting while I should be doing other things

I was the same way this morning! I got up and thought I'd get an early start on everything, and then found myself instead reading, commenting and writing on myLot! But, I guess that can be considered productive in its own sort of way!

That sounds like a good idea to me. But I can't be lazy right now. I came to visit my friend last night an hour away and I told her I'd help her out today with running around and some things around the house. Then I have to drive the hour back home. Then I might be able to be lazy the rest of the evening. :-D
