Balboa Island Christmas

Along the coast of Orange County, California lies the upscale town of Newport Beach. It surrounds a large, natural bay that is dotted with several islands. Balboa Island is the most accessible and the residents of that island go all out for the various holidays.
Every year I make a point of walking around the island with friends to see the Halloween and Christmas decorations.
Here's one of the photos I took this year. I especially like the snow in this one, since it is about as close to snow as we get here in Orange County at Christmas!

The "snow" was wonderful. In the next couple of days I will post a photo of roses blooming in front of a house decorated for Christmas. Only in California!

@JudyEv - Oh, people here in the United States pay others to do their holiday decorations all the time. The homes around the edge of Balboa island (the ones that have boat docks) cost about $4 million or more ... and some of them are second homes. I imagine a lot of these places were decorated by professionals.

I think a lot of these people pay other people to create these scenes for them ... although some people do it themselves.

@DeborahDiane Goodness. There is no way I'd pay someone to do it for me. And I wouldn't be nearly as impressed if I thought it hadn't been done by the home-owner.

That is a great picture and very realistically wintery. Great for getting in the holiday spirit.

@BelleStarr - I know! Some days it has been as warm on the East Coast as in Southern California!

It looks very real, but it is not. It never freezes here, so we never get snow.

It does look realistic, doesn't it? Walking by this house put me in the Christmas spirit.

Very Christmasy. If you hadn't said it was not real I would not have known any different.

I have heard that there is not as much snow as normal this year. Maybe you need to order some of this "fabric snow."

Balboa Island is very quaint and charming. If you didn't know it was here, you would probably miss it ... even though it is within walking distance of Fashion Island.
