Why Is Christmas Day So Special To Some People?

Our newly-elected Prime Minister (Canada), Justin Trudeau, was born on Christmas Day – December 25, 1971. Without doubt, it is a very special celebration for the Trudeau family – a birthday and Christmas celebration!
My first cousin and her husband eloped on Christmas day! My cousin was just 18 years old when she and her 21-year-old boyfriend eloped. They eloped because my uncle, her dad, did not approve when her boyfriend asked for her hand (marriage). To this date, after more than 30 years, they are still so in love. Christmas Day is always a double special celebration for them.
I also consider Christmas Day very special and memorable. I was not born on Christmas Day. No, no, I did not elope my wife on Christmas Day. It is just one simple but very memorable thing that happened on Christmas Day. I kissed my first girlfriend for the very first time. I was 16 and she was 18! It was my first kiss!
Why my first kiss was very special and memorable? It was so exciting because it was my first time to kiss a girl; but it was a bit embarrassing because I did not know how to kiss. O, boy!
What makes Christmas so special to you?!

Christmas day is the celebration of the birth of Christ and it seems many people are more concerned with the commercial side of Christmas whilst the real reason for Christmas is put on the back boiler so to speak. Perhaps if more people stood back and thought of the reason we are celebrating rather than what they did or did not get then the world may be a better place.

Well said as so many people seem to forget why Christmas is celebrated even though the first five letters in the word should be a hint why. @garymarsh6

And was it under the mistletoe?
I guess for me the whole magic of Christmas was exciting - the decorations, the tree, the lights, presents, family get together, food and treats - not just the day but all the days that led up to this day. And now I get excited for my kids who enjoy this holiday each year too!

to myself it is a special family time (or should be) and we should show our appreciation of Jesus even if he may not have been born on this particular day we should celebrate Him.

Very true we should show our appreciation of Jesus on this day of celebration. @bunnybon7

@bunnybon7 It is a time for families getting together to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Lots of Christians are celebrating Christmas by preparing and eating variety of foods and drinks. Some drink excessively, drive their vehicles carelessly, crash them or hit an innocent bystander. That is how some celebrate Christmas. . .

@softbabe44 . . . One funny comment of my wife she whispered to me while the priest was delivering his sermon (we attended mass on Christmas day) was this - "If you would have not lost your vocation to the priesthood (I studied in the seminary), you would be delivering sermons like him!" I smiled and I whispered back - - "Then I would not be sitting beside you today!"

I find Christmas exciting because it is a reminder of the birth of Christ. Wondering if people born on Christmas day will receive one present or two and those who have an anniversay on that day celebrate twice or just once. Just being funny.

For Prime Minister Justin Trudeau . . . I am sure his wife gives him 3 gifts . . one for birthday, one for Christmas, and a special third one when the kids are sleeping and when the guests are gone!

@celticeagle . . . I think "eloping" is no longer practiced in my old country - The Philippines - these days. Just like the modern world (the west) LIVING TOGETHER as common-law husband and wife is the thing!

@celticeagle The reason is when one decides to leave, there is no need to go to a divorce court. It is like - - "Honey, I am leaving . . take good care of yourself!"

@antonbunot We also had the habit to wear new clothes and shoes the day of Christmas. We used to go to the Mass the midnight of the Christmas Eve, it was so beautiful.

@LadyLuck . . . Yeah, me, too. When I was young I could not wait to go to church with my late parents. I got new shirt, short pants, and new pair of shoes. Then relatives and family friends dropped by to give gifts to my only sister and me. My late mother always prepared rice cakes, special dishes, and sweet rice for all to eat. O, I really miss my old home country - The Philippines!

@antonbunot yes, I think so. wahaha!
But my late mother should have controlled her womb from bringing my sister out so there should be double celebration if she was born on the 24th.
