Things Change

People keep saying that things change and they are correct. My life has been in an uproar for about six months. I could not decide what to do about Christmas decor. So I put out two of my little tomato cage trees, and hung a few small decorations from the sides.
I have gone from ten foot ceilings and Victorian rooms to small bungalow rooms with eight foot ceilings and no wide sweeping place for trees, or even house plants. I still have boxes and crates and bundles and am missing some decor.
I did not even buy a new star, which hubby and I generally do.
My attitude has turned around a bit today.
I was not looking for bargains in Wal Mart in the Christmas section, but I found some.
I picked up some very bohemian looking ornaments that have echoes of peacocks and butterflies. They are turquoise and purple and citron green and they sparkle. I will have a full sized tree next year. Possibly a live tree.
I was supposed to have an appointment today, but something changed. I am not sure what. So I have shopped and had lunch with my husband. I brought my laptop to town with me planning to spend the day. Here I sit at the library, fighting off a nap and surrounded by books and soft lights and the murmur of voices. Families drift up and down the aisles or take advantage of other aspects of the library. It is amazingly busy. I do not remember it being so when my kids were little.
So things change, attitudes change and times change.
My desire for a nap and my pleasure in the library have not changed, though.

I grew up without organization and now here I am an old lady who still does not know how to organize. It is coming together, though.

@GardenGerty Sometimes having a lot of storage space just means you hoard things but I am working hard on decluttering.

Things definitely change. Most are day to day changes, but a lot of changes can happen in an instance. My life has changed and yet so much of it has stayed the same. I am glad the library still stays comfortable for you. I like libraries for that reason too.

A little less than ten years ago this library was doubled in size and given a face lift and beautiful furnishings and windows. It is very right that the whole community use it often.

@GardenGerty We have a decent sized library for the small community we have. It is always nice to go into such a massive building and see it being used. Our library just recently added a playground.

I haven't bought a xmas tree in a few years, the last one was a live one which I planted out front but it didn't live long. Maybe next year I'll try again.
I haven't been in a library in years, but I used to love going to them before home computers invaded my home.

We were looking for a place to get a live one, but really did not find anything suitable.

I'm thinking of doing that next year @GardenGerty first I have to find the perfect spot to plant, I hope you find one next year, by then you'll have gotten completely moved in and figured out your yard and where you'd want to plant it.

I started taking our son to the public library when he was about 2 years old and it was always pretty busy there. I think that taking him at such a young age helped encourage him to love reading as much as he does. I hope that you got your little snappie nappie in!

I got a little at the library, a little in the truck. I took my son to the library as soon as I located it in town. It was a "treat" for him for good behavior, etc. By the time my daughter was born I took them a lot, but one time had a man complain about people bringing "brats" to the library. My comment was that it was a public library. Today it was young people, old people, farmers and laborers and dads with sons in tow. I see a lot more young men in the library now than in the past.

Libraries have become amazing places. Sometimes I wish the library was quieter but on the other hand I have gone there to learn to make greeting cards, how to take care of my aging knees, and to practice my knitting with other knitters. They will even send the books we reserve online right to our post office box! And these books come from libraries all over the province!

This is the library where I used to live. Locally ours is only open fifteen hours per week. I know of several where you can take classes or have a stitch night.

@GardenGerty true, the one nearer us is probably only open about 15 hours per week also. But it still has computers I can borrow. That small library is still connected to the same province wide system so I can get any book sent there that I can find in the system. They have occasional activities too. But yes the one in the city is amazing.

We are possibly moving some time in the spring of next year. I have to downsize my "collection" of things I treasured and some things I just had to have and probably could live without.
Haven't been to our local library in over 5 years. The last time I was there it was quiet as a tomb. The library volunteer was there and was quite helpful to me, almost too helpful. I think she was bored stiff. It was during the week in the morning that I was there. She said that it fills up quickly when school gets out in the afternoon.

It was a lot of men in the library today, some kids, some women, but men in insulated coveralls and work boots a lot. Some students stocking up for term papers.

Everything changes if you wait long enough - from what you like to what how you think....

Oh, I know it. I loved seeing the different type of library browsers today. Lots of fairly young men, and older men, and dads with sons.

I love the idea of a tree. I really like the shiny decorations. I love books as well and have a lot of them.

Thinks do change. My family celebration has changed so much and I haven't figured out how to adjust but I will. My Christmases were not like my grand parent's Christmases so why would my grand children's be like mine. Things change but we don't always have to dig in our heals and complain about it.

I do not think I have any real complaints. I think new ornaments and new traditions will be a good thing for me.

It's been a while since I have been to the library. Back when I was not yet working, I would be in the library at least 4 times a week and read for hours on end. Now that times have changed for me - work, school, life - I have never seen the library. I still have my trusty old library card. Maybe one of these days.

Part of the reason the library may have been busy is people coming to use the interent which wasn't there a few years ago.

I love the smell of a library. I have a Kindle and have used it for a few years. I recently went back to books I missed them.
