My first circular needles craft - a bird

Knit bird

After trying to knit with double pointed needles, I tried with circular needles. This is the first time I learn to knit with circular needles, it was not as difficult as I thought. Glad that I gave it a try. I finished knitting the pieces a few days ago, but until this morning only I started to stuff and sew them up. This part is always a challenge for me. I have another knit-in-the-round pattern to try out, which is a doll for my baby. I think I will use double pointed needles for that, as my circular needles might be too thick and my fingers got sore while knitting. I will need to stuff and sew up the cat which I knitted with double pointed needles, then I'll give them both to my children together. Do you knit? If you do, which type of needles do you prefer? Thanks. I used to think I wouldn't be able to sew or knit, but now I proved that I was wrong. Every person has talent!

@Dena91 Hi Dena, welcome to Mylot! Hope you'll find yourself at home here. I never thought I'd be able to knit or crochet, I am glad I am able to at least make some toys and accessories for myself and the children. Now I think it just needs the courage the learn and patience to practice.

I think there is quite an art in stuffing knitted toys. And in sewing on eyes and/or mouths.

Yes, these are always challenges to me. I always finish knitting the pieces, then it took me quite some time to complete the whole thing. I always didn't get these parts well. I understand I need more practice.

I love your gorgeous little blue bird. I can knit and do basic crochet but what you did here seems very clever to me.

Thanks. It's actually not too difficult to do this little bird. That was my first attempt to use circular needles as well. You can search for how to use circle needles on YouTube, once you got used to it, then it just becomes similar to the straight needles, except that we don't need to sew up at the end, which I like it. I am not good at sewing up the pieces.

@MsTickle I thought it's only because I am not good at sewing or stitching, and I require more practice.

@kaka135 I'm with you there as I dislike stitching things up too.

I get very clumsy with circular needles, but I don['t have any small ones. I generally use the double pointed needles for knitting in the round. Your bird is adorable.

Thanks. This is made for my children to play and use as a prop for storytelling. I guess I'll need to find some stories about bird or just make up some.

@paigea I always make some animals or dolls for myself or the children to use as storytelling props. It's actually inviting the children to tell the stories with the props.

I used to knit when I was young. I also crocheted and did needle point. I wished she had taught me how to do tatting for I love to see it. Your bird is very cute. I hope you share a photo of your cat when you are finished. My BFF crochets and is very good at it.

It's so nice that your mom taught you those handwork skills. I never heard about tatting before, besides from you, I guess. I searched online and found that it's making really pretty patterns. I am thinking if I will try to learn it one day. Thanks. I will write about the cat once I have done. It's a simple cat.

Wow, I think you can put up for sale online to get an extra income. I think a lot of people will want this little knitted bird to hang on their car or the windows.

Thanks. Perhaps I will consider that in future. At this moment, I wish I can make more for other children as well. I am not sure if kids nowadays will enjoy this kind of simple toy or decoration, they have too much fancy toys.

Yes, I know you have an etsy shop which I think is really great! Knitting can be really fun and relaxing. Thanks. I need to practice my stuffing and sewing skills, the stuffing actually makes it differently.

Thanks. Crocheting is fun! I think the patterns knitting and crocheting come out are really different. Knitting seems to be simpler, and crocheting seems have better figure. This is just what I think.

I like the circular needles for knitting big things like afghans and the double pointed for smaller things like socks.

Kids here always have the image in picture. Knitting is not very popular in my country. I remember when some kids saw me knitting, they told me they thought only old lady knit. They remember the image of old lady, perhaps sitting in the rocking chair, knitting. Some remember the yarn balls are what cats like to play. The kids didn't really know knitting can make so many good stuffs.
