Pickles and Pickle Juice

My three year old granddaughter enjoys spending time at our house.
Now that Opa (my father, her great grandfather) is living with us there are some changes.
At lunch time, she helps to set the table and then gets to knock on Opa's door to tell him that it's lunch time.
He also looks forward to her cherry, smiling face when she peeks into his room after knocking.
Sandra reminds me at supper time, to set out Opa's pickles and shot glass of pickle juice. She pulls faces and shudders when I suggest she try some.
The pickles and pickle juice seem to help control his restless legs at bedtime. If it works, I don't see the harm.
At my dinner table you will always know where our most senior member of the family is seated. Just look for the pickles and pickle juice.

Potassium, Magnesium, Manganese, Salt, - Sounds like a powerhouse of essential nutrients to me and the vinegar insures excess salt gets removed from the body.

It's way better than taking meds in my opinion.

If it works and is causing no other side effects than why not.

It seems to make a difference, even if it is just a placebo effect. He's happy, I'm happy.

@Morleyhunt You are right, it does not matter if it's only a placebo if he is happy.

Not a Dutch tradition. He read it somewhere. It even has to be a certainvariety and brand. Other brands and varieties don't have the same benefits.

@JudyEv I have no idea why Vlasic bread and butter pickles are so effective, but if he misses two days in a row, he can't sleep because of restless legs.

I didn't know about pickles & pickle juice for restless legs. I learn something new here every day !
It's cute that your granddaughter likes to set the table and makes sure your dad has his pickles/juice at his spot at the table

I am glad that your granddaughter cheers up your father and that the pickles and pickle juice help his legs.

It's two years down the road. He is now in long term care and I don't think he's getting his pickles and pickle juice any longer. He has enough medical issues now that a leg cramp would be the least of his problems.

@Morleyhunt
I guess he is in the place that he should be in now.
