Sink Hole in Our Neighborhood

Sink holes are something that we hear about from time to time but up until today I have never heard of one close by. Evidently there is one in our neighborhood. It is mostly in someone's yard but the road has also collapsed and they are detouring cars. I haven't seen it yet, I may take a walk over and see it tomorrow. I guess I should be glad that it isn't in my yard and I think I better check my homeowners insurance to make sure it covers sink holes.

Btw. how do you plan on walking there tomorrow, I thought you were on your way south, unless the sinkhole is near where you're headed?

@BelleStarr Okay, that's great. Maybe I'm mixing you up with someone else, but I thought you were on your way south?

That is creepy. I remember the news coverage that happened when that man in Florida was lost in a sinkhole that happened in his home. You be careful about checking it out.

@crazyhorseladycx I was a little concerned when I saw it was on 83rd Street since we are on 86 Court, sounds closer than it really is.

I don't think so, we are in neighborhood 2 and they are in neighborhood 4 so lots of homes and streets in between.

What are they caused by, does anyone know? I heard of some earthquakes that have been taking place, i think it was in OK and they are blaming it mostly on drilling for oil. With that in mind, I might have to reconsider my stance on that.

The country water company is arguing that the water main broke as a result of the sink hole and the HOA here says the sink hole was caused by over a million gallons of water rushing out of a broken main. I don't know if they frack in Florida but it is worrisome.

@BelleStarr So, you must have a home in CT and a winter home in FL just like many Michiganders do?

A former B friend had a sink hole. She lived in Tampa. Our place would fall into the Intercostal if we developed one. Hope they can repair it quickly.

It seems like they are having a problem with the homeowner at least according to the letter we got in our community mail box. With so much of the damage on his property they can't repair the road until he takes care of his part.

I don't really understand how sinkholes occur or operate but I hope it doesn't extend to anywhere near you.

I am pretty sure it is far enough away to be of no consequence to us.

@BelleStarr I remember seeing on TV a sink hole appearing and some wonderful vintage cars disappearing into it.

I have read a lot about these sinkholes happening in Florida. I wonder whether they are caused by land mass shifting into the sea?

I don't think they know what the cause is but yes, Florida seems to be prone to them.

Please be careful when you go for your walk, I think that I would be tempted to do the same thing if there were one close to me.

I' ve been reading in the paper today about some small sinkholes appearing here in England. I think they said it was caused by the underlying rock being eroded by water, over time.

That is why some people blame mining and fracking which use a lot of water.

I don't think I am in danger at least not at this time but it has been rainy so I haven't gotten out to find the real sink hole.
