Straddling The Bubble...

or unable to sleep at all. A few months back I wrote about my matress. We had bed bugs in July and I became paranoid of any mattress we might bring into the house. So, I decided to get us air mattresses. They worked great for about five months and then mine developed a big bubble in the middle that I either had to straddle or sleep on either side.Just one more thing to add to my list of reasons I don't get any sleep. It became too much for me and I got rid of it today and put a different mattress in my bedroom. Now I can sleep at night without waking up every time I have to move and refigure how to distribute my body so I could sleep. It was hopeless!

I don't have any options. Can't afford a nice bed. I have a small one now with no springs.

My daughter & her husband have their mattress on the floor and I don't know how they can sleep like that. It's just weird to me but I don't have to sleep there

I have an air mattress, just in case we need to use it for guests, but I never slept on it.

Here, instead of commercial mattress, sometime we use handmade mattress where there is only cotton inside. This makes it even and comfortable. This type of mattress is fine to have a good night's sleep, sans bedbugs, of course.

I've never slept on an air mattress, or a water mattress either. Glad you are sorted now.

Good that you have got a better mattress that you can sleep well at night. My mom has an air mattress, it is used when we go traveling. I think it's still fine if we have to sleep on it for one or two nights, but I don't enjoy sleeping on it. Perhaps I am just not used to it.

I have never experienced bed bugs, but once I had a spider crawl in my sleep on my bed. I was terrified. I woke up looking everywhere for the spider. So now before I go to bed, I always shake my blankets, etc. I hope you're getting more sleep with the new bed!

You don't want to EvER experience bed bugs either. I saw a spider on my wall and went to sleep that night with one eye open. All night.

I hope you will get some good sleep now that you have a regular mattress! Air mattresses are great for a short amount of time-but not for long term I don't think.

It is a small sized used mattress and no springs. Hope to get a full sized one with the springs at some point. Just have it on the floor.

@TiarasOceanView .......Yes, there is. They help every 12 months. My daughter got a couch and a chair with it back in August I believe so we have to wait. Sorry you have to sleep on an old memory foam. I dream of a pillow top.

@celticeagle Are there any charities or organizations there which could help you get a proper mattress? There are none here that I know of and is why I sleep on an old memory foam..it is useless and bad for my back. I also need a mattress a proper bed, I dream of it. We have not had proper beds since my son was a child. It is amazing that people like us cannot afford a bed. I am sorry friend.

I've had that happen before with an air mattress. When we first moved from Vegas to Tennessee, we sold most of our stuff. That meant sleeping on an air mattress for quite a while. Over a period of time, mine also got a bubble right in the middle. Not comfortable at all after that.

A mattress is so important and most of us don't change them often enough, just straddle whatever offends in much the same way as you describe. Hopefully this new one will work for you for a good few years now.

We had to sleep on a raft for a few nights when we moved to TN - it was the most uncomfortable thing we've done. A good mattress is important.
