My Speech At Our Daughter's Same-Sex Wedding.

Our only daughter is gay. She and her long-time partner decided to validate their union by marriage. Same-sex marriage is legal in Canada since 2005. Our daughter and her partner got married in 2013. When her three older brothers got married; composing my wedding speeches to deliver was not a problem. But my daughter's wedding was different. It was a same-sex wedding! I never attended a same-sex wedding before. I did not even know that in women's same-sex wedding both of them are brides! Anyway, here is my wedding speech: - - -o0o- - - "Ladies and gentlemen, good evening! My name is Julio, father of one of the brides, Cher. I would like to welcome and thank you all for attending this special occasion - the wedding of Jess and Cher. My wife, Ester, and I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely welcome and embrace Jess including her dad, mom, brother, and little sister as new members of our family. Jess and Cher are best friends since they were in the elementary grades. During the wedding ceremony my wife whispered to me - "Jess is so adorable tonight!" I smiled and whispered back - "Yes, she is beautiful just like you on our wedding day!" My wife smiled and whispered - "We changed!" The Greek Philosopher Heraclitus wrote - "Change is the only permanent thing in this world!" Weather keeps changing. The climate keeps changing. Fashion keeps changing. Hairstyles keep changing. Everything in this world keeps changing. Change never ends; so, change is permanent! Tonight we witnessed a significant change in marriage. Marriage used to be a union of a woman and man only. Not anymore! It is now also a union of man and another man; woman and another woman. We witnessed that extraordinary change - the wedding of Jess and Cher! Jess and Cher, a key to a successful marriage is never hesitate to say - "I am sorry, honey! - - - - i will do it again!" Now I would like to propose a toast to the good health and happiness of the brides! Thank you, everyone, and have a wonderful evening!" - - o0o - -

It is not her choice to be gay, @story07 . . That makes us love her even more. Both our daughter and her partner are college grads.. They have their own house and last year they spent their honeymoon in Paris, Italy, and Spain. We are happy to see them happy.

O, we love our only daughter to pieces, my friend. She is one loving and caring daughter. I am just wondering why some parents do not understand that being gay is not a choice.

@antonbunot Being gay should not affect a parent's love for their daughter, should it?

@antonbunot , some people can't handle it, I know a guy I used to work with was gay and his three brothers. The step dad couldn't stand it and ended up divorcing the mother.

@LadyLuck . . . My wife and I are praying for that, my friend. So far, they are happy together. In fact, their delayed honeymoon happened last summer. They visited France, Italy, and Spain.

'n what beautiful brides they're! i wish 'em all the happiness'n the world. i'm sure y'all were jest beamin' :) 'tis a diff'rent world these days 'n some folks're against such. e'en though i was raised 'ol' fashioned', i aint close-minded. i've a cousin who we her beloved 'fter 15 years together. they've now a 1 year ol' son who's the light'f their eyes. shame was, she didn't wish me to know she was gay. somehow she thought i'd think diff'rently'f her. not true! both women're a delight 'n that sweet babe they spent 3 years waitin' fer's one lucky lil fella to've such devoted parents. may the sun shine'n ya all! i thought it a lovely speech 'n so glad'cha threw in that 'i'll do it again' - coz aint that the truth, lol.

@tarotmore . . O, thank you, my friend. That is so nice of you . . I am blushing! Actually, all I was thinking was to deliver a short speech to avoid making the guests get bored. Our daughter suggested that it should also be interesting. So, I decided to have "change" as the theme of my speech.
