And the Plan IS. . .

Since I have already done all the things the doctor would have told me to do for my back pain, the plan is to discontinue the one med for the weekend. If it gets better she will have me take something else for blood sugar. If it does not get better I will have the option of getting a muscle relaxer to use as needed and we will take a time out from the supplement the doctor had me get to take for cholesterol. She says it can also cause pain. I am pleased that the doctor could see me this morning. . . she had someone cancel. She listens and she can tell by physically checking my back that the muscles are very tight. She also says to take my Rx strength pain reliever if I find it helps. It did not help last night so why bother. My problem is that with the pain going on I cannot concentrate on anything. Not house chores and not working online. I have friends encouraging me in another site that will require me to organize my thoughts and sign up. So, I will be here a little and other places a little and will get some dishes washed as well. I will skip the next five doses of the medication and see if that helps. I did tell people I would let you know what I learned, and this is it.

@Hatley it may not be the Metformin, or I may discontinue it for a bit and restart it. There is a supplement I also started on in the last month that my doctor recommended for my cholesterol. It acts like a statin but is not. My family members, some of them, have problems with statins. @PainsOnSlate it is not a common reaction but it is worth exploring.

I hope you're feeling better soon. Back pain or any pain is no fun at all.

It is just keeping me from getting anything done. I do not like that. I feel better now that we have a plan.

Now that I have talked with the doctor, if it is not this one it may be another supplement that the doctor wanted me to take. I am betting on the supplement.

It doesn't really sound very positive, does it. I hope you can get some relief soon.

We are working on it. I really like that I am being listened to and I feel like a part of the team. I should since it is my body.

I was doing the stretching before I gave up and contacted the doctor. If it is needed of course there will be therapy, but it may just be the process of eliminating the cause.

I hope you're feeling better and the medicine helps, Gerty. I've had back pain for two years. I had physical therapy two years ago (where I now used to volunteer at the outpatient rehab) and aquatic and physical therapy at the gym, when it returned later. It helped. I walked, did Yoga, Pilates, swimming at the pool and water aerobics at my gym for a little over a year. It's been a year next month that I had no more back pain. Long story short: I had Scoliosis when I was 12 and had a medal rod in my back, which now has wear and tear after 25+ years, which caused it. Maybe what worked for me will work for you later.

I know about scoliosis and that is really rough. I am not in a place where there are gyms or pools available. My exercise will be all on me. If we determine what is causing this, whether the Metformin or the supplement for my cholesterol then the spasms will likely quit. I do have a set of Pilates tapes I can use and some stretching and chair exercise books.

@GardenGerty Aww Gerty. Good for you for exercising at home with exercises videos on Demand. Good for you to have those books and tapes, too. That stinks of no gyms with pools nearby. Maybe someone in your neighborhood has a pool in their backyard.

Just take it easy and do what you can. Take it a day at a time. Take care.

It sounds like a good plan and you have an understanding doctor. That's a plus.
