I used to look up baby names all the time for fun. It was neat to see what certain ones meant. My name, Stacey, comes from Anastasia, which means "Of the resurrection". I think Anastasia is Greek.

@infatuatedbby Yeah it includes two parts, ie. 'Al' and 'Jamal' . The al part is used for the same purpose of 'the' we use in English and the Jamal part means most beautiful. It's an Arabic name My parents have done a great job

My trouble with finding my name on the keychains / magnets / Christmas ornaments you find at stores is that nine times out of ten it's not spelled "correctly". ;( I was named "Stacey" after a bookstore in San Fransisco when my Mom worked in the city before I was born (no kidding--she liked the name). It was spelled with an "e". Most people don't spell it with the "e" and to me without it it looks like the name should be pronounced "Stac(k)y"

@infatuatedbby bit of a story behind it. my mum and dad thought they couldn't have kids so they adopted me when I was a six month old and (my mum was religious) she said I was a gift from god so changed my original name (craig) to my second name and called me michael

My name actually consists of two Chinese characters - Lee & Ka. Lee means beautiful. Ka means beautiful, kind, good, joyful. Lee is actually a common name for a Chinese girl, I guess because of the meaning. I have asked my dad about the meaning of my name, he told me he just thought these two words look nice and sound good, hence he gave me this name.

@infatuatedbby Do you mean it was not like this in those old days? I just know for Chinese, it's common to have two characters or some just one. Nowadays, two characters seem to be more common. I am not sure for those who stay in China, but as we are Malaysians, we have the English name and Chinese name as well. English name is shown in our identity card, but Chinese name is not. Most of the time, we use the English names (such as my name, Lee Ka), as not many people read or speak Chinese here, except some Chinese. So, when we name our children, we need to think of the Chinese name and also English name.

Nice background of your name. It is common now to have 2 names especially in Vietnamese like that. Did you give your kids both American and Chinese names?

The name Crystal comes from the Greek word “krystallos” which means ‘ice’. Crystal is the English word used to signify high-quality cut glass which is suggestive of a precious gemstone. The name was coined for girls in the 19th century around the time other gemstone names became fashionable (Ruby, Amber, Pearl). The crystal quartz is found high in the ice-cold Alps (Switzerland and France) and the ancient people believed them to be frozen ice which magically did not melt. The crystal is often a symbol of magical powers (think: the crystal ball) and is said to harness strong spiritual healing powers and represent the universal source of knowledge. A diamond is a type of crystal and both are considered the gemstone for April. Because crystals are transparent, they are also associated with ideals of clarity and purity.

I looked up my name meaning a long time ago. Richard means wealth and powerful. My middle name means renown in battle and my last name is German for master. My last name came from master craftsman. The thing is, I'm not wealth and powerful nor renown in battle. As far as my last name I guess I'm a decedent of German master craftsmen.
