Don't Forget to Feed the Birds!

Well, we got out first "real" snow day before yesterday. We had a little snow the week before, but it didn't even stick to the ground. On Saturday, we got to watch those big, fluffy flakes gently fall to the ground and it was so beautiful! I would say we didn't get even an inch, but I noticed all the birds digging through the snow looking for something to eat. That is when I noticed my bird feeder was "on empty"! I quickly put on my coat and went outside to fill it up. The birds were coming to the feeder even before I got back inside! Don't forget to feed your birds this winter! How would you like to have to stand in that cold snow and dig around for something to eat? Do you feed the birds in the winter months?

Right now there are at least 25 doves gulping down seed, they will spend the day in our yard chowing down!

I usually have lots of dove here too, @AbbyGreenill but we haven't seen many this year. I hope they return in spring!

Good for you, @sofssu! Water is very important for the birds too, especially in the hot summer months!

We don't even see any birds around here in the winter months, I believe they have all gone South for the winter.

@sgbrown even though I don't have a bird feeder my neighbors do so there are many little birds around all the time. For some reason after they stop for their food at the neighbors they sit on my deck to eat it

It's a whole different scenario in Australia but we ensure there is plenty of water around the place in the summer.

All of the bird feeders in our yard are filled everyday by my brother-in-law and I enjoy watching them and if they are empty the birds will come up to the sliding glass door and stare in and let you know.

LOL, Mary! My birds will peck loudly on the feeder to let me know when it is empty. In summer, when the hummingbird feeder goes empty, the hummingbirds will fly back and forth in front of the window for us to notice! I think birds are smarter than we give them credit for!

I always feed the birds, even during Spring and Summer, I like to see them coming to my garden.

I do feed them, I have two squirrel proof feeders and 6 suet feeders. It is a busy place after a snow.

I bet it is, @PainsOnSlate! I have 1 squirrel proof feeder, another feeder that the squirrels love and 1 suet feeder which I need to replace the suet in.
