A doc that comes to the house?

I just answered a survey that finally was interesting. The idea of a medical provider at my house. I would not have to drive when I really should not be behind the wheel of a large vehicle. He or she would drive to me. Wow oh wow oh wow. I do not think this will happen in my life time. It appeals to me, though. Maybe at home, without the sterility and science fiction feel of the clinic, maybe there the medical person would be human and we'd get some where about those dratted blood tests that I've not given permission for in forever. Amazing.

Well guess what it is happening. Our insurance company sent us a letter regarding their new program where you can call and set up an app't for a doc to visit at home. It can be for any reason. I'm pretty sure it's a one time shot and it's probably a test to see how many take advantage of it....plus you get a Walmart gift card for participating.

@sallypup I go to Walmart anyway, for some things, not food, so two $30 gift cards is a good thing.

@abbygreenhill Oooh you get to go to Walmart. What an opportunity. I am being stinky this morning. A one time shot. I like that.

@sallypup While I still lived in NYC I had doctors who made house calls. It was great because when I got the flu it usually came with high fever and then I didn't have to go out the doc came to me.

@AbbyGreenhill Too many times I've driven to the clinic when legally I should not have been in that responsible position. Scary.

My dad was the only doctor in our small town whileI was growing upo and he made house call out in the far co ntry in South Dakota but that was many years ago Im al most 90 now. he l ast time I had a doctor come to my house was when I was 30 and was in allergic shock and could barely breathe. I had been bitten by dozens of small red ants on my two hands. He gave me a shot of adrenaline then an Iv of ant i histamine I doubt if we will ever have home doctors visits again .

Hi @hatley Your dad must have been something else. I agree with you. The medical care is already down to 15 minutes with each patient then done! Crazy pseudo care.

I am not sure how well this will take off. Doctor calls to home used to be the normality but it's been many many years since a doctor has made a home visit. There are a lot of worries about home visits and sterility. It would be a good idea / thing for those who are homebound or who can't always make it to the doctor's, but I don't see it taking off.

@scribbledadnauseum I am not good with docs. I rarely go to them cause I am totally uncomfortable in their offices and environment. Plus I have a deep distaste for needles. I am sick to beyond here of driving when I really should be hiding in bed cause I can barely see or hear. Even a nurse coming to the house would be better than nothing.

I completely agree with you. They are bringing this back with animals, so why not humans?.

@sallypup I completely agree. Looking around before the situation happens is best. I did that, and found a couple that were reasonable the same amount as if I drove them to the vet office.

@ricki Every time I have to face putting an animal down I wish with all my heart that I could get a Vet to come to the house without me paying for it with a thousand dollar bill. My poor fur person does NOT need the stress of the car ride into town and a scary Vet clinic.

@ricki_911 Here having a Vet come to my house would probably at least double the price for the visit plus the meds cost.

Doctors come to your home here in Switzerland and it has always been the same in Italy. When you are sick and you cannot go out, they come to see you.

The do have some on call doctors, but it cost a fortune for them to come to your home. I heard it happening in San Francisco
