A pain in the toe

Why gout occasionally lands on the joint below my big toe is a "known unknown" as a former Sec. of Defense might put it. But, this morning I awoke with the dull ache in that joint that tells me I might be targeted. "Why today," I muttered, when I am scheduled to work a rare eight hours on my feet? Maybe though, I sprained or strained that joint during a lively hour or so of table tennis yesterday and there is no gout involved. I am not overweight, avoid fatty foods and eat healthily, yet there is weakness for red wine with dinner. Oh well, I will begin my regimen of sour cherry juice and take an Aleve or something and go do what I need to. It always feels better with shoes on anyway. Do you know anyone who has an occasional ache/pain in the toe joint?

Is your blood circulation okay?

@JamesHxstatic James if this happens time by time you should ask your doctor. It can be uric acid.

Yes, I am fine according to my last checkup. This happens about once a year since I was about 28. Strange

I have one toe joint that occasionally flares up. I handle it the same way you do ... with sour cherry juice and Aleve. Those anti-inflammatories actually work!

Glad to hear our remedies are the same. Mine is a bit better now with the remedy and some ice on it.

I have a friend who has this problem, it seems that it's very painful. I am so sorry James, I hope you can feel better soon.

I should be quite a bit better by tomorrow, and have a short workday too.

I've gotten a pain in my big toe joint occasionally but not something I ever had checked or thought was gout. Usually it goes away and I forget about it until the next time it happens. Hope you just hurt it playing table tennis and it isn't gout.

My eight hour work day lasted about two hours. I am home now icing my foot and drinking sour cherry juice.

I do, but it is more than just one joint. It comes from going without my shoes (which contain orthotics). I was told that my high arch has caused the fat pads under my foot to go away. I walk on bone. Oops. This hurts, of course. Did you go barefoot yesterday?

The older I get the more tender my feet get, so I rarely to barefoot at all.The two different pairs of shoes I tried put too much pressure on the toe joint. I drank a 32 oz. bottle of tart cherry juice from TJ's yesterday and used ice while sitting in my recliner. This morning the pain is at least 50% less and the swelling is down.

@ElizabethWallace I use orthotics for my heels in some shoes, but the gout thing is quite occasional and internal I think.

@JamesHxstatic A cup or glass of green tea every two hours will reduce inflammation too. Have you thought about orthotics? They sure help me.

With ice packs and sour cherry juice and staying off my feet, it seems quite a bit better tonight.
