My son's making noodles

I haven't been making homemade noodles for a few months, since I was feeling unwell during my first trimester of pregnancy. Yesterday, I didn't feel like having rice for the meals, and didn't know what else to eat, hence I just made the noodles. The recipe is very simple, just plain flour and eggs. I have the bread maker and noodle maker to do most of the job, so it's quite convenient for me. The children always enjoy making the noodles their own as well. So we had noodles for lunch and dinner, and the children were happy with just that. We made some butter cookies again in the late afternoon as well. So, the children had some cookies for snacks. What do you have for your meals today? Image: My son is making the noodles with the noodle maker

We seem to have had a few big meals over the last few days so we've been staying with friends and going out. So it's time for a couple of light meals.

It's nice to go out with friends and dine out sometimes. But, it's always good to have some light meals after the big meals as well. I can foresee we'll have big meals in Chinese New Year. My husband always needs to take light meals when we are back to our home.

@JudyEv It falls on 8 February this year. At first I wish to bake some cookies for some relatives, but I don't think I'll be able to do so. Glad that I don't really need to prepare much for Chinese New Year, as we'll be going back to in-law's house.

Wow! We have so much in common in this aspect. I also have a bread machine and noodle maker. Although others think it is crazy to make your own noodles because it is troublesome. But they don't know how tasteful the home made noodles are. Besides, my son likes to help. You know children always want to help and find it fun. Next time perhaps you can try something difficult. Such as make some vegetable and carrot juice and make the noodles in green and orange. It will be so interesting.

Yes, I am planning to add more stuffs into the noodles too. I tried to add tomatoes once, I quite like it but my children didn't. I think it's good to add more fresh ingredients inside the noodles, so we'll have more nutrients. Thanks for sharing that. I'll try with some veggie and carrot juice. I think when we have bread machine and noodle maker, it makes us so convenient to make the noodles. I don't think it's troublesome at all. My hardest part is always kneading the dough. Moreover, I always think it's good for the children to learn making things with their hands, good for me as well. I have not made all these when I was young, my mom did almost everything. I am glad that I have a chance to learn to make things now. Sometimes it's actually the process of making makes us satisfied and happy, isn't it?

@youless You are right, perhaps you need a cotton candy machine. I think if you like to cook, some machines are necessary and they can really save us lots of time. I used to think just use my hands to do all these work, but they are really time consuming and tiring. So, it's good to have those machines to help us out, then we can have more time for others. My mom has many kinds of machines for cooking as well, so I think it's quite normal. I didn't know you can use bread machine to bake cashew. Mine is very old, it's actually my mom gave it to me. I wonder if it is already 20 years old. I am not sure if it can be used for other functions, I usually just use it to bake bread or knead dough. Now I am happy with the minimal machines I have - bread machine, noodle maker and soymilk maker.

@kaka135 Since I like cooking, so I have different cooking things at home. People think I am crazy to have so many machines. I told them that I haven't the cotton candy machine yet and perhaps they shall consider to buy and give to me By the way, I use bread machine to make so many things besides bread and pizza. I like to use them to bake the cashew and it really tastes well.

An interesting idea, but it does seem an slight waste of effort considering how cheap noodles are.

Nice! I am always fascinated whenever I see noodle-making in video. I think it is better to make your own so you are sure it is healthy and safe from harmful additives.

Yes, moreover it's very convenient, we can just make the noodles whenever we want to eat. I am not sure if it's easy to get a noodle maker over there, it's quite affordable here.

I just started to learn how to cook and make things, so my children always join me for having fun. Whenever I cook the noodles, I always make dried noodles, as it's easier and simpler to prepare. Hot soup noodles must be good for cold weather. Perhaps you can try making the noodles, it isn't difficult to make.

I used to make egg noodles from scratch. They were delicious and so good in chicken dishes. Nice that you have the makers to help the process along.

I have not try egg noodles with chicken dishes. How did you make that? I usually have noodles with vegetables. Yes, it's good to have the makers helping me, moreover my hands won't be so painful. I used to use my hand to knead the dough once, and my hands became so painful. My husband said, I should practice more then I won't have the pain.

I think your son likes cooking and baking. Perhaps he will grow up and become a great chef. I think you can spend one afternoon to make different kinds of dumplings, and keep them in the fridge.

I'd like to make dumplings as well. I only made "wanton" before, as it's the easiest, I think. Actually my son likes to do many things. He likes sewing, knitting and drawing as well. I think at this age, he is still experiencing everything which is interesting or what I am doing.

That looks like an awesome and useful noodle maker! I just had an earlier lunch some miso short ribs that I bought at the store with side of snow peas.

The noodle maker can help to make the dough pieces flat and cut them into thick or thin noodles. We used to buy the thin noodle from the market. Your lunch sounds good!

Do you serve some protein with the noodles?

There should be protein in the eggs, hence in the noodles, I think. I usually have noodles with vegetables only, I am not sure if those vegetables I put contain protein.

I just checked it out, the vegetables I always like to cook, pak choy or Chinese cabbage, contain protein as well (1.6g protein in 100g). It's considered one of the highest vegetables in protein. I didn't know about this. I actually didn't know there are some vegetables contain high protein as well. When I think about protein, I always think about meat and eggs only. Thank you for asking, otherwise I might not be checking on this.

Thanks. It's actually very easy to operate the noodle maker, just turn the handle. My little girl can do that as well, of course not as good as the elder brother. Sometimes it's good to let the children do it themselves, saves me lots of work, and gives them lots of fun!
