Another new kitchen appliance to learn

OK, this is a first for me and I'm a nervous wreck about using it. I ordered and received my first-ever Pressure Cooker. I watched the demo on QVC for quite a while and finally decided to try it. I like the fact that it: . is a pressure cooker . is a slow cooker . is a rice cooker . has a browning feature It was delivered yesterday so I have not had time to do more than take it out of the box and read a few of the recipe cards that came with it. It looks fairly simple and I'm sure once I jump in with both feet it will be fine. Lucky for me my husband is an old pro at using them, of course this one is modern compared to those he used! I like the fact I can now get rid of my rice cooker and my slow cooker so I'll save some cabinet space. If anyone has any tips or tricks I'm always open for suggestions!

I've been thinking of getting a slow cooker after people on here recommended them. I suppose it would be best to have it combined with a pressure cooker. I'll be interested to see how you get on.

I think we paid £10 for a slow cooker from Aldi and it's possibly the best £10 we've spent in terms of value for money. It uses very little electric and does my roast beef to perfection. Also great for stews. Set away on low 1st thing in morning and ready for tea time. Job's a good un.

@AbbyGreenhill I hate chewy meat and the slow cooker guarantees me that it won't be, however cheap a cut the meat is. If you are saying to me I like melt in the mouth slop, then I can't disagree.

@Orson_Kart I used the slow cooker several times and to me the food was way way too cooked. The one I have is a cheap one, but I can life w/o it. I will sell the appliances once I get used to the pressure cooker.

@Jessicalynnt This thing does all kinds of stuff, I'm still reading the recipe cards that came with it. I ordered a cookbook but the guy sold like 30K of them and they are back-ordered.

I have actually never used a pressure cooker for fear of it exploding. They are of course the pressure cookers of years gone by. Even so, I will use my trusty old cast iron.

@AbbyGreenhill I have to use both hands to lift the Dutch oven. It is really heavy.

There are only so many things you can cook in cast iron, we have a bunch of that stuff and I can handle lift them they are so heavy.

Pressure cookers were always considered a bit dangerous when I was young and I've never got round to having one. I'm sure someone will be able to help however.

We usually buy eye round roasts and some aree tender others not so much. Hope the pressure cooker tenderizes the tough ones.

I think you learn to use it first before you get rid of the rice cooker and slow cooker. You probably find that this pressure cooker is better in cooking something than others, and you will still retain one of the appliances.

The slow cooker I never liked, it's too small and hard to clean....so it will go right away.

I love it. also watched the info commercial on HSN and QVC. I ended up buying a pressure cooker from Walmart because it was a great deal. It was $60 but I had $30 in gift cards so I paid only $30 for mine. It is a Farberware. I did not get a recipe book with mine and the manual is terrible. Customer Support is no help at all. I have ended up learning through trial and error and asking some questions of persons who have pressure cookers. I believe that your recipe book is going to be a big help. I hope that you have a better manual than mine and perhaps your customer support will be good. I am liking my pressure cooker but not yet loving it. I have had some failures because I used too much liquid but I have also mad some delicious stews. Best way to learn is to jump right in. Always remember to use a little liquid no matter what.

That's what the guy demoing it said, you have to have liquid. I think for mine they have a FB page with recipes and on QVCs site too. I looked at the cards that came with it,but every recipe is for like 4 pounds of meat/seafood that's too much for two people.

@bostonphil no more pots/pans - a few months ago I bought the cooks essential set. I really don't more! I got the small Kerug and love it, my husband says coffee isn't hot enough for him...can't please them all. Will be using pressure tonight for the first time and I'm calling the volunteer fire department in advance!

When I was a child growing up my mother used a pressure cooker all the time for our meals and it takes no time at all for the food to be down. All I remember is when the food was done she would run water over the lid.
