My husband's new toy...

United States
January 30, 2016 10:47am CST
We have been golf cart owners since we moved to Tennessee. My husband isn't much into walking and since we've always owned large properties, the golf cart worked well for him. The current one until yesterday was a 2002 model and we've had it for 10 years and worked it hard. It was time for a new one. Gas golf carts are hard to find and finding a used one in our area was impossible. We finally had to go for a brand new one. We literally bought it over the phone with only a photo to look at. It is a Club Car XRT 800 Utility Vehicle and it had just about all the options we wanted. We did have to pay extra for a windshield and delivery. We opted to pay for delivery instead of driving 2 1/2 hours each way to pick it up in Sevierville, TN. It has the big tires he wanted so he's a happy camper. It was the last 2015 they had so we got a good price on it. So far so good, still a little too chilly to be out riding around in it today! You can see in the photo Ruby is riding shotgun! Photo is mine

@sugartoes If I didn't think it was a joke I would not have commented in a positive manner.

It looks to be a very useful vehicle for traversing the rural terrain show in the picture.

@AbbyGreenhill I bet!! If I had a lot of land, I'd want one of these and paint my ride pink. In my backyard to use one of these golf carts would be a joke lol.

They sell like wildfire around here. When we got our first one in 2000 we actually bought a few golf clubs to put in it just for laughs.

Golf carts have come a long way from the fairway. Last year when my missus and I camped up in the Blue Ridge Mountains, we rented a golf cart from the campground for me to use going up and down the mountain. I never would have made it all week if I'd had to walk it, what with my arthritis.

@AbbyGreenhill I am not a fan of people who ride 4-wheelers just for fun any more than I am a fan of people who ride SkiDoos or any other motorized personal water craft just to ride around and annoy people with the noise.

@DWDavis We have a few 'kids' down the road about a mile who are up and down on the 4-wheelers in the summer and they are annoying...just as you turn on the TV to relax they go riding...this summer when I get too annoyed I'm calling the sheriff.

Golf carts are more popular away from golf courses now - Out here where we live you mostly see 4-wheelers so they can make lots of noise.

I live in a small town of 3000 in the middle of the corn fields of Illinois. They are really big on golf carts around here. So big in fact that the village now issues a sort of car licence for them and now they are all over the roads. Gotta watch out for them especially in the warmer weather.

Lots of towns in FL allow them now. This one has lights, but no seat belts and I think they are required for road riding, but it's not legal around here. We vacationed in a small town in GA a few years ago and golf carts are the vehicle of choice they even had parades every Saturday.

In Arizona you see a lot of golf carts on the street especially in the winter months when the winter visitors are there. There are lots of golf cart shops around and the carts are nice to ride around in if you have problems walking to far.

That is neat but where we live, we wouldn't be able to drive one. The only time I ride in one is at the golf course when accompanist my golf loving son for one of his games.

We only ride it in the yard, once in a blue moon he'll ride to the neighbor's house which isn't far. They aren't legal here on the roads.
