I did some window shopping today...

My husband and I stopped at the grocery store on the way home from dropping the kids off at their schools this morning. After we finished our shopping, I decided to walk across the street and say hi to a friend who volunteers at the thrift store on Wednesdays. My husband decided he wasn't interested, so I had him take my car home. We had a good time catching up on things, but of course I had to do some window shopping while I was there. I mean, it's a thrift store after all... And of course I found a really nice sewing table, a bench, a nightstand, and a pair of pretty decorative bowls that I'd love to have for our apartment. I had to pass them all up today because it's not in our budget right now, but they gave me some fantastic ideas for things to do for both the living room and the kids' bedroom. Just for good measure, I had to stop at the other new thrift store on my way home. They still have the two colorful canvas prints I saw a few weeks ago, and I found a basket that would work even better than the one we have by the door to store hats and scarves. I'm probably going to go back to both stores on Friday and buy a few of the things I saw after thinking them over and making room for them.

It's always a pleasure to go windows shopping, at least you can get great ideas for the house.

I'm driving my husband crazy right now because I've been reading a lot of interior decorating and DIY home magazines lately... but I'm really enjoying the process of actually working on making this apartment a home for a change!

I love window shopping but hate not being able to buy something I really want. Hope you get back to those things you saw you loved

I've picked up a few of them already. The basket came home yesterday, and today I caved and got the bench and the two decorative bowls. I'm still debating the sewing table... my big hangup is that it comes with the machine, and I think I'd prefer to buy a new one. I might see if they'll discount it a bit if I don't take the machine. After looking at the nightstand again, I think it's a little too solid for the kids' room... which is probably an odd thing to say, but it's a really 'heavy' piece and I'm trying to make the room feel more open.

Isn't that so much fun?? There are always tons of stuff I'd like to get - but then I have to convince myself that we really don't need it - and we really don't have the room for any more STUFF . I love going to thrift shops, but most of our stores here won't hold anything - if we want it, we have to get it right there and then or otherwise it probably won't be there the next time we go. I want to go look for some cool plant stands - or something that could be used as that!

It's too much fun, if you want the truth. I got the basket. And the bench. And the two bowls. I was honestly surprised to see that everything I was eyeing was still there. They'd moved the bowls, which were the things I really wanted... but I found them! I thought about putting a potted plant on the bench... then reality hit me. I have kids. Kids are destructive. Somebody is going to end up running around the house with the plant on their head, dirt tracked from one end of it to the other, and no clothes in sight. Artificial greenery it is, then.

@much2say I kind of did jump for joy over it. My husband really likes them, too, which is a plus. Given how our toddler is, she'd probably eat whatever we had here...

I love the part about making room for something new. I have been staring at a lovely vintage table that is up for sale by a local person. I already have sweet vintage tables but this particular one has spindled legs. No and no!

I've just gotten two more boxes of things ready to go to be donated, so we'll probably take those over and then grab some lunch. I've parted with so many things over the past few weeks... really feels wonderful! I'll probably finally be done with the living room today, and then I'll move on to organizing our closet. I can't wait to have all of my photographic equipment organized in there instead of having it all over the apartment...

Yeah... it puts a damper on some things, but it really makes me reconsider what I really want (and need!).

i do find some kind of relaxation with window shopping. It is one way of spotting which is the best to buy for future use.

I did get quite a few of them! The bench and the basket are perfect for the "landing strip" area by the front door, and I got both of the decorative bowls, too. I decided that I don't really want that sewing table after all, because I want a brand new machine. I might try to negotiate with the manager if it's still there next week and see if she'll let me buy just the table without the sewing machine. Can't hurt, right? I just got approval for the canvas prints from the 5-year-old, so I'll probably go back and get those tomorrow along with a letter organizer I want to take to work. She also saw a bike she wants, but I'm not sold on it... she still needs training wheels, although that could just be me being an overprotective mom.

That's one reason I don't spend a lot of extra time window shopping, because it won't be in my budget for several years even though we could use some newer furniture. You did well keeping your goals in that.
