Did you know today is Get a Different Name Day, what you said you didn't know that well now you do. At birth we are given a first, middle and last name. Get a Different Name Day is is for those who are not fond of the name given to them by their parents but if you like your name then this is not for you. If you want to change your name let your friends and family know. So take advantage of today to change your name if that is your wish. How many want to do so? Little know fact flower for today is Cypress Vine and food for today is Blueberry Teacake.

I've learned to love my first name over the years. When I was younger I asked my mom what my name was before she adopted me and was disappointed to find out she didn't change my name! LOL I am planning on going back to my maiden name (which happens to be Finnell) soon. I kept my married name after my divorce for the kids but they are grown now.

@irishidid Adopted and your name was not change by your adopted mom so I take it you like that name. When divorced and kids are grown no problems going back to your maiden name as kids are old enough to understand now.

I have never understood why anybody wishes to change their name, although it is a fairly common practice.

@Marcyaz That applies most places, but here I could change my name by Deed Poll.

So, what are we charged for changing our name and how do we go about it? Just let our families and friends know? Doesn't it have to be written somewhere to be legal? What a pretty flower.

@celticeagle I would imagine you go to court to change your name legally. that flower is called a Cypress Vine which I had never heard of or seen before. It is quite lovely.

I wanted to change my name when I was a kid, and looked forward to the day I would change my last name. That day came, and after many years it went back to the way it was. Now I've gotten used to what I have, and knowing what my last name means, makes it not such a bad name after all, even if people can't pronounce it.

@fishtiger58 My dad had a nickname for me also and sometimes other people really thought that was my name. Strange when your name isn't used that often how you forget what it is.

I doubt that it will be as simple as that to change your name. What about all the paperwork you'd have to do? And it wouldn't be easy getting everyone to call you something different.

Just for the fun of it, I would change my name to Amber. Because i know it's a lot of paperwork changing names like what my cousin did.

I didn't know about this day. I wouldn't want to change my name anyway because I am already too used to my name and so is everyone else. If I did want to change my name, I'm not sure about what name I'd pick. That would be a hard job trying to find a new name.

Don't we still have to go through legal channels to have our name changed? I can't figure how does this work.
