Police Officers Give Out Candy Instead of Tickets

Now that's the kind of interaction I would like to have with a police officer! Today, in our community, the police department decided to show some love on this Valentines Day by giving speeding motorists a little break. Throughout the day, police officers were out in full force pulling over drivers for speeding. However, after giving them a stern warning for the traffic violations, the drivers were issued bags of Valentine's candy instead of spending tickets!
What a sweet thing to do!

You would think that most people would be happy that they didn't get a ticket, or at least thankful that the police officers were being generous, but I bet there's a few rotten apples out there that will probably file a complaint to the city about their tax dollars being wasted on candy!

Wow that is really nice of the police officers to cut some slack today for Valentine's Day.

Too bad they couldn't show that same kind of love all year long!

I'm curious if offenses would increase next Valentine's.

This is the first time I've heard of the police doing this, so I'm not sure it's going to be something they do every year on Valentine's Day. I wouldn't be willing to take the chance next year!

Darn. I should have gone for a ride with my brother then. His texting and driving skills would have surely got us some candy.

I'm more afraid of texting drivers than I am of drunk drivers. At least drunk drivers are somewhat paying attention to the road! Texting drivers are too busy looking down at their phones to see what is going on in front of them on the road!

@moffittjc People are so strange when they get caught doing something they know is wrong. Instead of admitting fault, they get angry at the person who caught them.

I'm willing to bet a few people were still angry, even after receiving candy instead of tickets. Instead of focusing on the good, they'll instead focus on the fact that they got pulled over!

@DWDavis You hit the nail on the head! It's funny sometimes to watch how angry people get when they are caught doing something wrong!

@moffittjc Valentine's Day is only for couples (no matter if married or not).

How awesome is that @moffittjc . I'll bet there were a lot of shocked motorists.

Maybe it was all sponsored by a local dentist...give away candy and sugar, and then when all those drivers get cavities, they'll have to come see the dentist! lol

@nanette64 That's exactly what I was thinking! They were already caught speeding, so giving them sugar isn't exactly going to help them slow down any! lol

@moffittjc The bad side is every driver getting a sugar rush and speed even faster.

It is nice to see some police stories instead of the negative publicity they are getting from the liberal media who do not appreciate their hard work to protect and serve their communties.

This is quite a similar story to police giving out "good behavior" tickets to kids within the last week or so and it is a great way for the police force to save face with the public. Most stories in the news right now show instances of bad policing so it is nice to see this for a change. Keep protecting and serving!

I saw a bunch of stories on the news around Christmas time where police officers were pulling over motorists and then instead of giving them tickets, they gave them cash to use to buy Christmas presents for their families.

You mean all your police officers don't give out candy? Shame on them! hahaha

And it might even work. When people get a ticket, they are mad at the cops, instead of feeling guilty about their behavior. Maybe this will reverse the trend.

I think they'll still be mad that they got pulled over, even with the candy. People don't like getting caught for doing something wrong!

@moffittjc Correct. Unles, of course, they have no sense of guilt.

That's awesome.
I watched a YouTube quite awhile ago now, I don't remember where this was but Police were pretending to pull drivers over and talking to them as if they were getting a ticket but they also made small talk asking them what they wanted for Christmas. Then as they said what they were wanting, these other people would quickly run through a store grabbing the items to then give to the drivers lol was cool.

I saw that video too on You Tube! That was awesome! The police do awesome things every day, but the media never reports on the good things they do!
