This is my entry to the garden ornaments contest started by @Gillygirl. I like water, especially moving water. We have a pond in our garden that ends in a small cascade and a stream runs on one side of our property. During summer, it happens that the stream is dry and I missed the noise of the water. This is the main reason why I decided to buy this small fountain to install in front of our patio. The fountain has a solar pump, that moves the water during all the day. Even the little birds appreciate the moving water and they come to bath during the hot days. Do you have ornaments in your garden?

This is a lovely fountain. I'm sure the birds enjoy bathing in the water.

@JudyEv You are right, I have also bought a new nice bird feeder and they ignore it, still preferring the old one.

@LadyDuck It's funny but they have their own preferences which don't always match up with what we think they'd like.

I love this little fountain, and for the same reasons that you do. The sound of water is so soothing and brings the birds and a certain feeling of relaxation to that space. We have a fish pond with a waterfall in our backyard. I even like to look at it in the wintertime, we turn off the waterfalls, but the pond itself still lures us over to that side of the yard.

@LadyDuck You cannot see it very well here, but the top level, just beneath the lighthouse, is where the water starts and falls into the pond. But its shut off for the winter months.

Anna Pond in Summer
@Juliaacv I can see it. Our garden is on two different levels, as you can see from this photo of last summer. The water flows from the pond into the fountain on the lower level and a pump brings the water back into the pond.

Our garden is on two levels, the water from the pond creates a small waterfall, a pump bring back the water into the pond from an underground pipe. In winter the movement is turned off, now the bond is frozen.

That must be a pretty water cascade when it is in motion. I have a waterfall.
A water fall in a garden is a soothing experience, specially when one strolls around in the garden.

@LadyDuck You just need a pump that throws up water from the pond and your cascade sends it back to the pond which would not be that expensive. It depends on the height and distance of these two items to determine the power of the pump. Mine has a 2 hp pump. I can directly have water going up to the fall from the well but that water will not go back to the well as it is not clean. It will fall in the reservoir. I also have a connection to the reservoir when I close the connection to the well and then open it when water throws up and falls back into the reservoir. Did you create this cascade yourself. My waterfall is my own creation. I only had labourers and a plumber to construct it under my instructions.

@allknowing Yes, we created the pond and the cascade ourselves, we called the plumber for the pipes and the valves under the construction.

We wanted to created a small cascade flowing into the pond, but it's not an easy project. I should see what I can do.

@LadyDuck My two favorite places to be are on the banks of a river or the shore by the ocean. I love being near moving water.

The pool is a great ornament, we do not have one because we have too many cold months. There is a hot tub in a corner of the garden that we use from May to the end of September.

@AbbyGreenhill Most of the time we do not heat the water, the heat of the sun is enough, but in late September it is pleasant.

@LadyDuck We aren't hot tub people. I won't even take a bath - i don't like sitting in hot water - I am usually in hot water other ways!

Your fountain is so elegant. It has some Japanese style. That's great that it has a solar pump and therefore it won't cost you any electricity and it is very environmental. Unfortunately I live in an apartment and therefore I don't have my own garden. It is a very luxurious thing to have a garden here because the houses are crazy expensive.

@LadyDuck That's great that you also have bamboo in your garden. It looks so nice. It seems that in Chinese Fengshui, the fountain is also important and it seems it can bring you more fortune. And this is why in some buildings there are fortunes in front of them.

@youless I have several books about Chinese Feng Shui, this is why we have planted the bamboo, added a pond and a fountain. Also in the house we have tried to do our best so that the the invisible energy or force (called chi), can circulate.

The fountain is lovely and it soothes my soul when I look at it. I have a fountain a friend gave me years ago but you have to keep putting the water in and its kind of a pain so I just let it go and its just a nic nac now. But I love the sound of running water its very soothing and peaceful.

@LadyDuck About how long is your summer and how hot does it get- I think it may be like Canada where we get from May to September but some days can be cool and some can be really hot. Our autumn is beautiful and has great comfortable weather temperatures.
