My first disappointment with the new Mylot script.

I am not sure how many of you will have already looked at the new layout site for Mylot, but suspect that quite a few will have.
It is quite a change from the old layout and looks more like a regular webpage as opposed to the forum layout of the old site. Naturally I like this, as I expect most members will also do.
The disappointment for me is that the avatar is displayed on the navigation bar and not below it as in the old layout. This results in the avatar not animating and appearing encased in a black background. The avatar that I refer to is our own avatar, so for those not using an animated one this will not be noticed.
Of course this is the only place that it will not animate, so anyone seeing my avatar alongside my discussions or comments will view the animated version.

@pgntwo It shows up alongside the $ sign at the upper right on a desktop computer, but not on a mobile. I was quite impressed with the new look on my desktop, so decided to check out the mobile access.
I never use Mylot on my mobile, so I looked at the old site first and then the new, which was terrible in comparison. On the old site I can expand the page to view, but with the new Mylot it cannot be expanded and is seriously difficult to read.

But I thought we both agreed that since our avatar is only visible to us it would not matter much. Anyway if they can still consider your viewpoint nothing like it.

I don't use animated avatars so not really a concern for me

@arthurchappell I may be tempted to attempt that myself because I do like a challenge.

@silvermist Quite possibly because the new version has been pre launched for testing purposes. However, I feel that it is unlikely to change due to the avatar's location.

Odd that it won't animate on the navigation bar. I wonder what is different in the coding there. The odd thing I've noticed with the new app is that my responses to discussion posts keeps showing up below the post with a time stamp of 5 hours before I actually posted the response.

I like the new mylot site as it is much nicer and cleaner than the other site, and the drop down menus are great too. Everything is all in one place and not having to seach all over the place is ideal. I use it exclusively now, as we will be using it late anyway. As far as your animated avatar, it is animating on the new site.

The majority of members appear to have misunderstood my reference to the animated avatar, which does suggest that I may not have explained it well enough.
The avatar animates fine in the discussions, so nobody except myself will notice the difference. On the old site your personal avatar appears at the upper left below your username, whereas on the new site it is above there on the navigation bar. This is the one that will not animate, but only a member with an animated avatar will ever notice that.

@Asylum Oh okay, I was misunderstanding it then. I hope that they fix that part of it soon, so it will animate all the time. They seem to be right up on things though, as when there are problems, and they know about it, they do take care of them. It is nice that they do care for us like they do, and will fix things that need fixing.

My somewhat concern would be the first old myLot layout will be all forgotten with this newest layout. You know how we always refer to the original layout as the 'old myLot' and the current one being the 'new myLot' especially after they restart the earning feature in the middle of last year. Well, now everyone is referring to the current one as the 'old myLot' and the one under testing as the 'new myLot'.

It was launched a few days ago. The programmers are in the process of upgrading the site layout, so they have released the future site early so that we can use it and comment on any issues that we encounter. Both sites display the same material simultaneously, so you can post or comment on either.

My only disappointment in the new layout so far is that I can't easily see how many notifications I have without hovering my mouse pointer over my avatar. In the old layout, that information was readily displayed.

@moffittjc This seems rather unlikely. The coding used is certain to be cross platform and suitable for Apple, Windows or Linux.

@Asylum I'm on a Macbook Pro laptop. I wonder if it displays a little differently for Apple devices?

I don't currently use animated avatars, although I'd like to use them more, but I don't have the extra time to make them work correctly, so not having it on the top bar isn't a biggy for me. But, I do enjoy seeing it animated on your page. Do you think that won't be available in the long run? I saw your comment on their post and it seemed like you understood that since it was located where it now is that was the reason.

The new site will support animation in the discussions and comments just as the current one does, the only difference being the one that appears on the upper navigation bar.
Fortunately that only shows on the page of the member whose avatar it is, so is not too major a deal.

@Asylum I'm glad you were able to get over it that quickly. I wasn't too sure whether you could live here with that part not working as you're used to.

It is worth taking a look at least. If the issues get fully ironed out then it may become the only Mylot available, in which case everyone shall need to use it.
Trying it now would be the easy way to become accustomed while you can still use it for a short while and revert to the old site.

Mylot is in the process of introducing a new layout, which is being optimised to be mobile friendly and will eventually replace the current version. We have just entered the testing phase, so both versions of the site are accessible for the time being.
Whatever you write on one version will appear on the other simultaneously, thus providing an choice during this interim period. The new version of Mylot can be accessed via

It may be worthwhile to post your comment on Mylotbugs discussion at

Maybe it is your browser because the avatar(yours) that I am seeing is animated and working fine. Has no black background. I am on the new site. I see where you have copied an image but the avatar by your username is working just fine.

That is not the particular image that I am referring to. It does animate fine in the discussions, but not on the navigation bar.
On the old site our avatar is displayed below our screen name in a box in the upper left of the page, whereas on the new site it appears higher up on the navigation bar itself. It is this example on the left of the navigation bar that will not animate.
This will only be visible on my page because you will see your own avatar there instead.

@Bluedoll The images are placed in different locations on the new Mylot, as in the image supplied along with the discussion.
The one change that you will not have noticed is the static animation. If you look at the upper left corner you will notice that your avatar is on the navigation bar, which is where an animated avatar will not work properly.

It is animated everywhere except on the navigation bar, which fortunately is only visible to the owner of the avatar because upper left shows our personal avatar.
This will have no effect on what others see, but does disappoint me to view it that way myself.
