Expressions on peoples faces makes interaction more meaningful. Though verbal responses gives us an idea of how a person perceives a situation, receives some information, or accepts what is presented to them, it is the facial expression that give us a clearer picture of what the person really feels or thinks.
Some of us could miss sarcasm, scorn, ridicule or irony in verbal response but its is hard to miss the look on a persons face. We often assume that only humans have these great expressions. However, pet owners would insists that their dogs smile and wink at them.
I love the look on this monkey's face. He seem so... Okay I won't say what I think.. what do you think the expression on his face says to you?

I think facial expressions can lie to us... I'm quite good at smiling... even though I do not feel like smiling... but I completely agree they are a very important part of communication.... I'm afraid I think the monkey looks very sad... of course I've no idea why... but to me he looks sad, and upset... not angry... but depressed and sad....

@sueznewz2 Could be true .. though we sometimes smile I guess our body language would say other wise if we are not watching it.. but you are right some people are good at hiding their emotions.

@sueznewz2 But such a smile would definitely be different than a whole hearted smile.

@jaboUK so true janet.... we do not realise, how much we use peoples facial expressions, to help us interpret what they have said...

He seems watchful. As if something a little intimidation is coming closer.

A lot of the time, I have a very serious look on my face that I am not aware of. Some people, including my brother, will ask if I am okay or if I am upset about something. I'm not, it's just the normal expression on my face. I have been trying to change that but it's not easy.

Trying to change you normal facial expression can be really difficult. However, to tell you the truth I also have a serious expression most of the time.. people know that I am fun only when they get close to me. I guess its a facade to keep people from thinking you are frivolous .. just kidding.

@Jessicalynnt I do agree that there is something pensive about his looks.

@antonbunot I am sure you are seeing him through your eyes and heart. LOL .. it does seem we project our emotions and thoughts on to others.. Thanks for the laughs.. loved the comment.

Most often, nonverbal communication explains more than what is said.
Is the monkey thinking of some mischievous plan?

When I'm having a conversation with someone I look at their face because sometimes their face isn't saying what the words are....someone could be saying something sweet but you know they are lying LOL

Because we can't see facial expressions here, I try to be really careful about how I write comments. It is easy for things to be taken the wrong way sometimes.
