Chocolate Covered Strawberries FAIL

I ended up purchasing Toll House's Delightfulls Filed Baking Morsels (Milk Chocolate Morsels with Caramel Filling) - thinking they will melt like ordinary chocolate chips? But nope, they were a fail. They were burnt once it hit 1 minute in the microwave. They did not melt in the constancy to dip strawberries in.
Luckily, I had some dark chocolate candy bars from Trader Joe's and used that to melt in the microwave then, dip the strawberries in and let the strawberries chill in the microwave instead.
Lesson learned to buy regular chocolate chips!

The humanity! I'm sorry to hear about this (though the part of me that hates microwaves chuckled). Trader Joe's dark chocolate bars are one of my staples. In fact, I have coffee to my right...excuse me--heading to the fridge!

Ha-ha. I am not quite a fan of microwaves either. But I figured it wouldn't hurt if I'm using it for only a minute. I could have used the stove but that would require too much work (for someone who doesn't cook at all or bake).
I am learning though!
My boyfriend likes Trader Joe's dark chocolate bars (the red ones)! I am more of a milk chocolate person. In fact, I went to Trader Joe's today and bought a bunch of sweets because I was hungry while grocery shopping.

I would have assumed the chips would have melted like the others do

Me too! But these were filled with caramel? And I guess it doesn't melt well. I even tried melting for less than 1 minute - 30 secs and it came out a different constancy. Not melted chocolate, I just smeared that constancy anyway on the strawberries and made another batch with dark chocolate.

@Marilynda1225 I tried again instead of 1 min (cause it was burnt) I was able to microwave another batch for 30 secs and it wasn't a melted chocolate constancy but it was sort of spreadable (however not appealing) and I did that for a few strawberries. Then, for the remaining strawberries I used dark chocolate candy bar that melted.

@infatuatedbby it's too bad they didn't melt as I bet they would have been delicious on your strawberries

I have always wondered why chocolate chips do not melt. I get those biscuits which have these chips and they are intact.

I learned the hard way, but now I know. There are some chocolates good for melting and some aren't, hehe.

I did not know that lesson. I've tried milk chocolate chips in the past and it worked wonders.

@infatuatedbby If it is very good plain milk chocolate it can work, but it is easier to make a mess.

I was able to use dark chocolate instead to melt and dip the strawberries in that.

The chocolate and caramel constancy was strange - but I ended up throwing the first burnt batch away then melted at 30 secs and it was more of a paste. Then I made the dark chocolate dip for the strawberries.
