O, I Love Orchids!

I just read one of the latest posts of our friend @amadeo with the title – “I Had A Surgery This Morning!” wherein he posted a picture of their white orchids. I love orchids! My favorite flowers are roses and orchids. I am myLoting in our living room right now and I took a picture of the orchid that our daughter gave me as a gift in my last birthday. Is it not a beauty? French fashion designer Christian Dior wrote – “After women, flowers are the most lovely thing God has given the world.” Do you love orchids, too?

That white orchid is indeed a beauty . Your daughter is so sweet to give it to you as her birthday gift . How nice that you have flowers and plants in your house .

Thanks, @SIMPLYD . . . O, plants inside the house are a must. They give off oxygen . . and absorb farts!

@SIMPLYD Farts blows off Co2 (carbon dioxide) . . and it is the favorite foods of plants like my fortune plant. So, when I feel farting I see to it that my fortune plants will catch all the Co2 . . . Take a look at my healthy-looking fortune plant absorbing all the farts in the house . . Ops, I farted . . I just ate rice and bagoong-laced pinakbet . . Good you are thousand miles away . . .

Lovely orchids. I saw a bunch at the Chinese festival a few weeks ago. I like them too but I'm not good at keeping them alive.

Yes, I love orchids too and Christian Dior was a charming man, French men know how to pay a compliment to a woman.

I'm actually not very fond of orchids - I don't like their long bare stems.

Orchids are beautiful and they can last a long time! I grew up with a certain kind of orchid growing in our yard (I can't tell you the name, but I can picture it in my head- ha ha). My dad was a gardener so he knew how to grow anything. But I think the orchids they have in the stores these days are interesting. The other day I had my eye on an arrangement like yours, but the orchids were blue!!

@Auntylou I had wondered if that was natural or not! Ah, so the blue fades in time? It looks quite striking anyway. I've seen the deep purplish ones too!

How funny you should mention that. My sister had a lovely white orchid that a friend had given her as a deep blue one. It had been dyed( taken up through the roots) but had eventually faded

I do love them and received one for Christmas. A beautiful yellow one speckled with red flecks. It is now on it's last bloom. I will water faithfully every week and hope for more.

@Jeanniemaries Ice cubes so as not to soak them? I also put my orchids close to the window to get the needed light. Thanks, my friend.

@antonbunot I went to a lecture a few weeks ago about taking care of Orchids by the local master gardeners. The one who gave the lecture was passionate about orchids and kept only orchids in his greenhouse since the first one he bought more than 50 years ago. I thought he probably knew his stuff. He poo poo's the idea of watering using 3 ice cubes once a week like I was told. He says you can't soak them, they must dry out inbetween but they need more water than that. I have two friends who water that way and they have Orchids that bloom repeatedly! Mine is now bloomless even since I posted, the last bloom has shriveled. I know they need to be cut back now and wait for the new stalk so I'm hoping. I have a good place to keep it, a big window without any direct sun! Lots of light here in Florida.

@antonbunot I was told they liked to absorb water slowly, hence the ice cubes. But the master gardeners said they soak their orchids at least once a week. Always in the morning so they will dry out before dark.
