Sadly though, I have an infection in one of my teeth. This tooth has been bothering me for about 4 months or more. I noticed a growth in the gum above the tooth and asked my dentist what it was. The tooth had been super sensitive to anything cold or hot.
After taking an xray of the tooth, the dentist said he could find nothing wrong with it. So, I just assumed that it was due to grinding my teeth and kept using the toothpaste for sensitive teeth.
Recently I noticed a puss sac that formed on the outside of the gum. It has gotten bigger of the past few days. Kept telling myself that I needed to call the dentist to get an appointment. Today, I did call and remembered that it was the day the office is closed.
Now I am not feeling great, probably due to the infection, and am worried sick over this. Hubby is telling me that he will be bringing me to the ER if it gets worse. I am waiting until morning to call the dentist to get an appointment. But, yes, if it does get worse I will be making a trip to Urgent Care or the ER. Infections such as this are nothing to fool around with.

Hopefully he can see me tomorrow. I know my clients will not have a problem letting me leave if I can get in to see him.

I would be diluting peroxide half and half with water and swishing to help with the infection.

I think I have peroxide in my medicine cabinet. I'll have to start using it tonight. I also have a mouth rinse that was prescribed to me when I had problems with another tooth. Now to call it in for a refill.

Hope that this infection goes away soon. I am on an antibiotic now. I do go for regular check-ups, but this past year I was had some problems that required more visits.

@Marcyaz, it is uncomfortable, but I also have a high tolerance to pain. I am seeing my dentist today. He called in a prescription for an antibiotic yesterday.

I was surprised too. He also tested the tooth wish some gadget to see if it was still living, and it was. Now I am puzzled as to what is going on with it.

@vandana7, I fully trust this dentist. I have been going to him for over 20 years. I am sure that if he can't find what is wrong that he will refer me to someone who can.

there are some things once can do at home, like salt water rinces, or even go to your normal dr for an antibiotic.

I hope that you are able to get in quickly to get some antibiotics for that area. I ran into an old friend a few weeks ago that has been off work for the past year due to fluid around her heart. It was caused by an infection that they blame on something similar to what you describe, so I hope that you can get it taken care of.

I have had them a time or six in my life. This one isn't nearly as bad as the ones I had in my youth.

It might be more cost effective if you go to your family doctor or urgent care rather than the ER. They won't do anything probably except give you antibiotics. They can give you an injection to get it started quickly too. You can also call Ask A Nurse and get professional advice.
