Does anybody from the US, Canada, or elsewhere had foster children? Do they remain in touch later on in their lives? What is the procedure? Is there any age limit? How many months or years can people keep children as foster children? Please explain..thanks in advance

I have never had foster children. I would ask Brad and Angelina about it. Course they have tons of money so...

We don't have such system here. Even adoption system is all screwed up. From what I know of foster children, they are the kids under 18 who have abusive parents or are not well cared for, orphans, lost, with no guardians and such. Or unless they have gotten emancipated They are put in the care of people who are licensed to foster kids. Mind you getting licensed is a strict business there... Thy put a child in your care and they don't just leave after that. They keep a keen eye on child's progress and your care taking ways. Time to time inspections are made to decide if the child would stay in your care or not. Foster parents are get paid. You can adopt them too later on.

I had my home licensed for emergency services only. Which means I only watched children for a day or two until they found a home for them.

We do not have the possibility to have foster children, we can only adopt children and in that case they become part of your family, just like they were yours. We have no children.

I think we should have foster children system. There are so many helpless, and institutions cannot manage. In India the system has arrived in fall of 2015. Lets see how things pan out. :)

@vandana7 Here in Switzerland the institutions take care of the children that have parents with problems. I can understand that people like to adopt children that become their own, but to take care of children than one day will be given back to their families can be very frustrating.

I know people who have fostered children. Some stay in touch but others don't. They might keep a child for some years although I think mostly time periods are shorter - a few months perhaps. I don't know about age limits and my knowledge is very limited anyway. Hope someone else can be of more help.

No I haven't. With three young kids, I don't think it's the best time. Although I may be opened to it, when my kids are older. I'll have to see how things go.

Having own kids gives some idea about various problems that can crop up, I guess.

This surely is interesting because we in India are getting introduced to it. I would be interested in something like that.

Fostering children is a great responsibility. Many governments had different laws and screwed it for the sake of the child.
