Socks, the yarn of life

We might not often think of socks as that important, but to a small elf in a book/movie once, they were. They were the one thing that set him free, that set him apart from his enslaved race. While your socks might not set you free, they are quietly keeping your feet warm, and hopefully blister free. I have a drawer of the things, in all sorts of colors, and types. I can be all dressed up, and have frogs on my socks. You can't see it. But I know it's there. And that small act of rebellion helps me stay sane in a world of cubical. When I go home, I often peel off one pair, and then put on a pair of warm fuzzy ones. It may be a small pleasure, but I rather like the comfort of a pair of fuzzy socks. It reminds me of childhood and sliding around in the kitchen, of not having to be an adult any longer. Life isn't always about the big things, the obvious things. Sometimes it is the small comfie ones that make more difference, in the long run. Socks may seem insignificant, but they really are the yarn of life.
