Dear myLot friends in case you have been wondering...

United States

Just wanted to find a cute way to fill you in on some things, personal and not so personal. * In case any Tennesseans who were ready to rush out for a pet skunk, don't bother, the bill didn't pass. Skunks will remain in the 'wild'. * If any of you live in my county be careful, my husband will be on jury duty soon. And he's not really happy that jury duty is for one year in this county, yes, one year. * I bought a new Waterpik and it is quite different than the 'portable' battery powered one I used for years. While trying to be extremely careful as to where I shot the water, I unfortunately shot it right into my eye. Let me tell you how much that hurt! And it still bothers me at times. * Last but not least myLot friends, in case you have not done so, please read the Guidelines. This applies to newbies as well as those of you who have been here a while. Not reading them is no excuse for breaking them.

Just like in real life "ignorance of the law excuses no man". I am sorry about the Waterpik accident, I know it hurts... I did the same.

@AbbyGreenhill I agree, I was checking careful to see how it worked and the water hit my eye.

You did the same thing, now I don't feel so bad! I think sometimes being overly cautious is worse than using no caution at all.

Do skunks eat mice? I would like to encourage them to hand around if they do, but I don't want to get too close; they can stay wild! I hope not too many cases go to trial. The one time I got a letter for jury duty; the case ended up not going to trial. Ouch, you must have bruised the eye a little or something. Guidelines? What guidelines?

@AbbyGreenhill skunks eat bugs, so they should stay in the wild and do so.

@GardenGerty I wish they would eat some of the bugs in our yard...I know they are out there I smell them every morning.

Guidelines for this site...under 'help'. I don't know what skunks eat. Yes, I bruised my eye - but I can see fine out of it so I can deal with a little pain. He was on jury duty at the last county we lived in and only had to go to one case, he wasn't selected adn he was done.

As far as I now I should be able to own a skunk here in England, although I must remember not to take it with me if I visit Tennessee.

They let off a 'stink' to keep predators away.

I didn't even know what a Waterpik was until I read the comments. I think it's what we call a pressure washer. Sorry you hurt your eye.

Sorry about the injury.. I don't know what a waterpik is. I just learned about it today... I know now that it can hurt us.. We don't have any juries here but I heard it's somewhat of an inconvenience but it's a responsibility of every citizen

@AbbyGreenhill if you don't mind, can you tell me how busy being a jury is?

@hexeduser22 I have no clue, never was on a jury.

It's a responsibility alright, but I don't think giving up a year for it makes sense.

I'm sorry for your husband making the jury duty list. When we get called for jury duty it is only for 1 trial. So if you can manage to "fail" that then you're home free.

I guess since our county only has 1100 people jurors have to serve a long time. I read the entire list of ways to get out of it but Unfortunately we're both in good health and have a brain....

@marlina No he doesn't,,there is no financial hardship ,etc. You have to call the court house daily to find out if you have to report or not. How do people plan vacations -

Sorry about those who won't be able to fulfill their dreams of owning a pet skunk Glad I'm not on trial if your husband is on jury duty (would he cut me some slack if he knew I knew you?) Ouch on shooting water in your eye!

If he thinks/knows you know me he might have them throw away the key LOL! So far I've shot water at the door three times, the mirror twice and washed the floor thoroughly!

@AbbyGreenhill OMG that's too funny but sorry that your eye is still painful from that shot you gave yourself. Sounds like it would work well on the exterior of the house or patio if you need to power wash it

1 Mar 16
Who said it is horrible.
• United States
1 Mar 16
@MALUSE Yes, that's very clear isn't it....he isn't happy that it is for a year. Most counties you serve a month at most. Not being happy and calling it horrible are totally different.

Jury duty is for one year. You mean he goes in every day for a year. I'm not sure what you mean. Here it's called " One Day One Trial" If you don't serve on that one day you are done for at least a year. If you get on a trial you sever that trial then done for one year.
• United States
1 Mar 16
First he reports to jury duty one day at the end of the month. Then on call daily for one year. he has to call in every day - mon- fri - for a year.

@fishtiger58 That's what the instructions say - and if you don't call they can arrest you for contempt. I keep saying we live in the boonies - now maybe people will believe me!

I'm curious as to which guideline you saw violated recently! I read them...ok, skimmed through. Perhaps I should read them over more carefully. Sorry about the water pick! So far I've kept it out of my eye but never say never.

Now that I finally got this discussion to open, I see I may be very amused. I would not want jury duty to last a year. As for the guidelines, they bear with a good ready fairly often.they may change any time.

The more I think about this jury duty the more I'm ready to call the courthouse and ask a bunch of questions.

I am glad the skunk law did not pass. There are some animals that are not meant to be pets. Concerning Jury Duty, I have served on a jury before and a Grand Jury. Tell your husband that is not that bad if he gets on a Jury. Both the Juries I was on, lasted one week each, and we did get paid.

@AbbyGreenhill Wow, I didn't truly realize it was for a year.
• United States
1 Mar 16
It's not being on the jury that is a problem - jury duty lasts for a year...that is the issue. How do you give up a year of you life for that? Getting paid isn't an issue, we don't need their money, but we need to live for a year.

@abbygreenhill Thanks for the update and the reminder to read the guidelines. For one thing, HAVE NEVER SEEN A SKUNK except in a picture. One continuous year of jury duty? Or did I hear it wrong? a waterpik: I have one too- - a battery one; seldom use it. Please provide me with an incentive to use it. Does it really help? Yes, I will make sure to read the guidelines in my free time [depends if and when!]

Yes, jury duty is for one year....crazy I know. When you get old and have bad gums and bone loss you will wish you had used the waterpick daily! Yes, it helps.
