Downton Abbey: "All's Well That Ends Well"

I can't say that I am sorry to see it go, for it was time. They had wrung all the drama possible out of this tale. That is not to say that it was not well done, for it was. the characters were appealing, though at times you might have wanted to strangle Lady Mary (I did). Lady Edith was always a sympathetic character. Carson was the epitome of a British butler from this American's point of view. Then there was Mr. Barrow, such a conniver at first, who grew into an amazing character whom you really cared about. I fully expected the young man to hang himself out of despair; thank heavens he only slashed his wrists and was rescued. I swear that I did get tired, even bored, of Mr. Bates and Anna's endless troubles. Did you? I have only scratched the surface of this great series here. I am certain many have opinions that do not agree with mine. So, what do you think? Glad it is over? Who was your favorite character? Whom did you despise? Were you satisfied with the ending? What should have been different?

It'd run its course. I couldn't stand the anna/bates storyline...it really put me off the show. My favourite character by far was the dowager countessshe made the show with her one liners.

Yes, she and her unlikely friendship with ummm, that rather democratic woman was a wonderful aspect of the show. That Bates thing got to be a real pain.

I'm watching the early series as I didn't get into it when it first came out. Did you know that they are to make a film of downton?

I'm sad, yet you are correct. I think it ended at a good time before it became repetitive. I agree with most of what you said. Bates & Anna did seem to have so many troubles. So happy we got to see them have their baby. (in real life, anna is quite lovely). And yep, hated Barrow for most of the show, but he really did make changes & I'm happy he had a happy ending as well. I was really rooting for Edith!
