Sometimes it's fun just to watch...

Ol' Scar...it's not always 'Can I catch it?' Sometimes, he just sits in the yard and watches things. He can reach the squirrel...and I am sure he knows it...but he's spent the last several minutes just calmly watching. Of course, I don't know what he's actually thinking...he may be calculating 'leap = (z) Ft, squirrel = y, time = w' He always has been better at math than me...

You never can tell with cats. He could equally well be reasoning "If I just sit here, maybe the squirrel will come closer and be friends ... or something "

Scar's leash is too short to allow him to climb

Cats are unpredictable, he could be there thinking that he could try to befriend the squirrel... so then it's easier to catch him.

I think this experienced hunter knows that the squirrel is too close to the tree for him to stand a chance.

What a great cat Scar is! I'd be sitting out watching him too. Even the best of hunters sometimes just can't be bothered.

We used to have a dog who would capture rodents in his mouth and would then dutifully leave them at your feet. He never ate them or hurt them. He just loved playing catch with them.....

That's what cats do. They love to just watch. That's their second favorite activity after sleeping.

They have their moods. It's not every moment that they think of food. Wonder what Scar is thinking - a penny for his thoughts.
