A Special Tree

There have been a couple of posts about trees by @oceanTiara and @AmpiePam, and it made me think of a picture I had in my files. I was privileged to visit Colonial Williamsburg a couple of times in the last few years, and both times we spent an interesting hour under this tree, listening to stories about the site. So I thought I would share this picture with you all. Have you ever visited Colonial Williamsburg?

@AnneEJ I'm glad. It is an interesting part of American history. I would love to return. I developed a fever, which turned into bronchitis while I was there during a school vacation. I'm thrilled that I wasn't so sick that I couldn't enjoy it. However, I spent the following week in bed on meds, so ill, that I missed a week of school after the week off.

It was planted in the early 1930's, is called the Compton Oak. It is 70 feet tall, and 97 feet wide. It provides a lot of shade, even on a warm day, it felt cool when we were sitting there.

@AnneEJ Yes, I go to Williamsburg several times a year. There are discount outlets there with a lot of good sales. And we go to Busch Gardens, which is also in Williamsburg and Water Country too.

There were lots of people there both times we visited. The first time we went we were there for November 11, and got to take part in the celebration. We were all wearing poppies and got to talk to a lot of people asking about them.

From what I read it was planted in the mid 1930's, so that would make it over eighty years old.
