Is money worth more than friends?

My last visit to Amsterdam and the Windmills

"There are two ways a man can be rich in this world, he can have a lot of money, or he can have a lot of friends. But he cannot have both." ~ Freddy Heineken My chosen quote for the day is revealed in the best possible way from the MOVIE "Kidnapped - Freddy Haineken" where five young Dutch men pulled off one of the Biggest Money Kidnappings in the Netherlands history. Its strange to see how friendships dissolve with the presence of MONEY, one would wonder if the presence of money be worth it, for a man is not an island and friendships are the force behind longevity. Some food for thought, is money worth more than friends? The Real life story based Movie is great. If you havent seen it yet, Anthony Hopkins plays an excellent role, the only thing I would have liked, is a little more DUTCH accent in the story to make it more authentic. I loved being able to see some of the streets of Amsterdam again even if only on the Big Screen. I give the movie 7/10 for trill value. I hope you take the time to watch it.

I suppose if you have a lot of money you may always be a bit sceptical as to why someone wants to be your friend. That constant doubt can't be good for your personal relationships!!!

that is one of the factors to consider, and the other is SELFNESS with wealth

@Inlemay Not having any money means it's not something I'll ever have to consider. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing!!

Money is definitely not worth more than friends and family. I'd much rather be poor and have my family and friends than have lots of money and not have them in my life.

The happiness and the feeling of bond, sharing joys, sorrows, dreams that we can do with a friend , cant be compensated with money.

I guess that is the reason why in the Bible it was said that you cannot have two Gods. I am not sure but at times, money tests our character and how we deal with the people around us. People who value their money so much gets to be too defensive on what other people are showing him that sometimes he finds it difficult to trust people.

In too many families money is the only thing that counts. The money seems to be the force that moves the world... at least this is surely what the politicians think.

It seems really sad that you can't have both money and friends. I'm not sure that I believe that actually. I think in some cases you can have both.

i think one can have them both as well - but neither in abundance, because at some point in time, either the money wins over the friends - that I have witnessed

Most of us make our best friends or true friends during childhood or school or college days, when we dont have money, so yes its true.

I would definitely choose friends over money, it's when people do not have enough money they tend to choose money first. What is enough? For some, never enough.

some people strive and strive to have money and hoard it in the likes of cars and houses and tons in the bank. I always say there is no tow-bar on a hearse to take your worldly things to heaven with you . . . sharing is caring.

I knew about the kidnapping of Freddie Heineken, but never knew that a film had been made about it. As for the value of money compared to friends, I have never had either so it is impossible for me to say.,

@Inlemay So it was used for draining the water from the land ...... Well, see how technology is evolving , makes it easier unlike those windmills which looks like its hard to operate .

there are only a few working windmills left in Holland as they use a new technique to drain the water from the land lest the Netherlands sinks into the sea. But this one is still is use and the owners live alongside the windmill.

I also would prefer to have friends in my life. I know I can earn enough money but to earn good friends is tough. It takes years to build a good friendship.

I think having friends is more important than money. Because money brings power with it and too much power is not a good thing.

Money seems to have a mind of its own, deciding the fate of so many things and people as well. But no money is worth sacrificing friends for. As they say, money can't buy everything.

Well sacrificing friends is too bigger a term here. Some things are not under our control. Suppose if you get a great job opportunity at some other city and your best firend cant move out, so in that case you may distant apart from your best friend, but still it wont be a sacrifice, I feel. Indirectly money will be the driving force here.

I've learned a very valuable lesson since my husband passed away. Friends are worth more than anything. Real friends, of course. It's a lonely world out there when you have no one and I think that most people take their friends for granted. I've learned that I can survive with very little money. But friends? Without them, I am lost.

I think it depends on what kind of friendship it is and what are our priorities in life. But I always believe money should not come in between friendship as it corrupts pure friendship.
