Where for art thou, sleep?

Not being able to sleep stinks. Normally, I'd read, but this eye surgery thing is messing up any kind of attempt at reading. Infomercials abound on late night television, and as I live alone there is no one to commiserate with me.
It's not nearly as big of a deal as I make it sound. Loads of people aren't getting sleep for more serious reasons.
When I'm still it's like the pain vibrates throughout my body. It's hard to stay still because of that, and that does NOT please my dog, Annabelle. She gives me a one eyed glare when she pops her head outside the covers.
Do any of you sleep with a pillow under your knees? Odd way to continue this post, but I was thinking about an article I read about the best and worst sleep positions. The best was lying on your back with your head and neck elevated, with a pillow under your knees. That position reminds me of getting an MRI or Cat Scan. They always elevate your knees to make it more comfortable. By the way, they say the worst sleeping position is on your stomach (not good for one's neck).
I say get sleep anyway you can! Although, when my mom was alive with her dementia in full swing, she fell asleep standing up and toppled right onto my dad, which about scared the poor man to death (she'd often be caught staring at my dad, standing over him in their room at night)
Off to answer some of you guy's discussions!

I hope that you eventually did nod off to sleep. I hate it when I cannot sleep.
I use 3 pillows to sleep as of late. I need to be totally propped up so that I can breathe easier, this became a problem when I had pneumonia.
Oh and btw, dogs can sense when we are in pain, so Annabelle knows.

My dog Sherlock was amazingly aware of my pain. Not one bark when I had a migraine. Annabelle barks, but I don't think she's made the connection that it hurts my head.
Do you use any special kind of pillow? I need new ones, but I want to get some really known for supporting the neck.

I'd suggest a few shots of some nice spirits
If you aren't a drinker hot milk works for me as it brings back childhood memories and makes me sleepy

I'm mostly a side sleeper. Lately I've not been having much trouble sleeping as my days have been so busy so when it's bed time I'm exhausted! Try taking an evening walk a few hours before bed. They say watching TV or being online aren't good for falling asleep as it makes your brain more active. Try doing something quiet for 30 minutes before bed that doesn't involve an electronic.

I would play games in my laptop just to get me sleepy. though I tried it with watching tv but I always end up sleeping with out notice and then wakes up again. but i will change and sleep a bit more early.

That would scare me too. I always sleep on my stomach. I can't sleep any other way comfortably.

No I don't sleep with a pillow under my knees. I usually sleep on my side.

I have trouble getting to sleep as well. I think it's due to menopause
