One of my most embarrassing moments

@Boiboing posted a discussion about an embarrassing moment someone from her office experienced. She ended it by asking if we have ever done something as embarrassing as the person she wrote about. I realized that my moment deserved it's own discussion, so here goes: Picture this.... My then boyfriend and his 13-year-old son, 3-year-old daughter and myself went to Yankee Stadium for a game. This was back in the early 80's. You know I'm not a 'kid' person and my big responsibility was to take the little girl to the rest room. I was more worried about how to deal with her doing her business than I was with where I was going. When I opened the door to the 'ladies' room' I couldn't figure out why a bunch of men were in there facing the wall....then it hit me - I was in the men's room. Of course they all turned their heads to look but thankfully they kept the family jewels facing the wall. You see, there were two doors for each restroom. You were to enter through one door and exit through the other door. Unfortunately the men's room exit door was right next to the ladies' room entry door. Oh well, stuff happens! I can honestly say I never went back to Yankee stadium again!

You need to buy a caravan with a toilet in case you ever have reason to go to watch the Yankees again.

We stopped going north of the Mason Dixon line in 08 - no more Yankee Stadium for me.

@AbbyGreenhill A wise decision because they do not play the proper game of football anyway.

I have done that once or twice and thankfully backed right out of there as it is very embarassing. I would not go back there again either.

I had a similar experience in Estonia where we stopped on a cruise last year. They didn't have legible signs on the doors, and of course I chose the wrong one.

That's pretty bad. My mother has really short hair. Many years ago we were in a public bathroom (I think in the mall) and a little girl said there was a man (talking about my mother) in here. She didn't say it really load though. My mother laughed about it.

I have done that too, I hate when the doors are close together and not properly marked. It does make for some embarrassing moments.

Ha-ha. I didn't go in the mens restroom but I had my hand pressed against the door about to go in then I realized it said Mens.

Oh my, a very embarrassing moment happened when I was around age 13 and it was after Church. I had gone into the bathroom and when exiting,, I thought my skirt in back was out and flowing, but part of it was caught in the top of my panty hose , so the back of my underwear was showing and a few people I know saw it! I was mortified with embarrassment!

I felt bad for the little girl, I didn't want her telling her mom that I took her to the men's room.

I think a lot of us have done that! I made the same mistake in Walmart once. I didn't pay attention to the signs. The good news is that no men were in there at the time, but when I saw the urinals, I pivoted quickly and raced out that door and into the one beyond! I ran into a stall and hid, even though no one ever knew. lol

I think many of us have done that and with the way things are going there will be a day we won't have gender specific restrooms
• United States

That day can wait until after I die, I don't want a gender neutral bathroom experience!
